Defected welcomes one of Chicago house's founding fathers Marshall Jefferson into the illustrious list of House Masters. An artist that has successfully navigated major cross-over success while retaining utmost respect from the inner circle of electronic music's underground, Marshall has been behind countless seminal records over his five-decade career. Now this retrospective compilation showcases the impressive and vast output of this house pioneer, ranging from his most well-known solo records, to major production credits, key remixes and the underground gems still favoured by selectors today. Cutting his teeth as a producer for Chicago's Universal Recording Studios, Marshall was one of the most active DJ and producers on the Windy City's music scene during the 1980's house music boom. Working under a plethora of aliases such as Virgo, Jungle Wonz, Truth and On The House, as well as producing for names such as CeCe Rogers, Curtis McClain and Evelyn "Champagne" King, the compilation opens with what is arguably Marshall's most famous record, 'Move Your Body'. The first recorded house track to use piano, it has remained a staple of dancefloors across the globe, with Solardo and Marshall's rework (as heard on the compilation) only further cementing its legacy. A bona fide house music luminary, 'Defected presents House Masters - Marshall Jefferson is an all-encompassing guide to his tremendous career. A trailblazer and genre-defining artist, Defected is honoured to welcome Marshall into the House Masters Hall of Fame with this very special compilation. A permanent feature of Dixon and Âme sets, the Tel Aviv born Tal Fussman marks the 3rd episode of our „Quantum Spits series focusing on a Detroitish minimalism. „Children of 95 resembles the turning of past and future, cleverly woven into a package of raw sounding club tracks inspired by influential releases from Detroit legends like Robert Hood, his outstanding family project Floorplan or the sub-aquatic basslines productions by Derrick May. He incorporates elements of soul and funk, infusing warmth and emotion into an unpolished sound universe that creates a unique sonic texture based on minimalism and space. With a sense of exploration in sound design, Tal Fussman takes classic elements and transforms them into his own vision of House Music, unique to its creator.

Ignacio Ravagnan comes back to Impulse with his debut EP: The Device Had A Problem Including 4 gems, Ignacio takes us into his own world of sound, building tension and playing with immersive atmospheres, solid grooves and ideas that captivated our ears and hearts from the moment we first heard this pioneering piece of art. The EP kicks off with Mutual Feeling, an acoustic drum journey through a constantly evolving atmosphere that allows the listener (and dancer) to relax and connect with its surroundings. Following comes The Device Had A Problem, the one that gives name to the whole EP. With this one Ignacio really sets the bar high for what is to come, a strong melodic footprint with a groove that shakes the floor. The third track of Ravagnans creation is Trama, the banger, the dance floor breaker. Glitches and surprises along the storytelling with a minimalistic approach to drums and a bassline with which one cant help but move along. Last but not least, comes Far To Go, the perfect closing for all the energy felt along the way. A much more introspective and emotional one, careful here since it will make you think of your loved ones.
Martinesque is a Basel, Switzerland based producer, DJ and a staple of the Swiss underground. Since his 2018. Collaboration with Perlon / Rush Hour artist San Proper Beesle & the Beautyon abartik, hes gone on to deliver multiple EPs and an album on Adams Bite where he makes a welcome return here with his latest two-tracker, once again showcasing his distinct sound thatsinfluenced by theroots of house and techno and straddles the lines between the two. Memories leads the release and sees Martinesque fusing jazzy keys, airy synth tones and gritty bass stabs with expansive atmospherics and swinging drums. Harmony then follows and employs raw, crunchy drums with a brooding, snaking bass groove, breathy vocal chants and hypnotic arpeggio melodies all dynamically evolving throughout.
