Deep Medi Musik 140 / Deep Dubstep / Grime
"I'm very excited to work with deep medi again. I was buzzing to be releasing topper top with them on their 10th anniversary and it's even better to be back for their 20th". Sir Spyro Kicking off our 20th anniversary year, and arriving 10 years after his iconic release 'Topper Top', grime, dubstep and UK bass pioneer Sir Spyro returns to DEEP MEDi with his new dancefloor rattling EP, 2ND SQ. The EP opens with the unrelenting '2ND SQ', the track's stuttering hi-hats and all consuming bass cut through by an icy, industrial-sized snare. The desolate 'Be Afraid' creates a sense of vastness via its minimal production, resulting in an eerie and energised track designed for dark warehouse raves.'Diagonal' continues in the same dark vein, the track's brooding, looping production sure to send listeners into a mystified trance. Closing the EP is 'Patch Bae', a glitchy joyride that calls to mind the16-bit era of gaming, leading listeners on an exhilarating, kaleidoscopic journey. 2ND SQ A1: 2ND SQ A2: Be Afraid B1: Diagonal B2: Patch Bae 13th Feb 2026 (MEDi145)

'It's an absolute honour to be releasing on DEEP MEDi - they're a label I've looked up to and wanted to release on for a number of years so I'm really gassed to be putting out this EP with them. It was a lot of fun to get to explore the deeper side of my production and I can't wait for everyone to hear it!' Deep Medi Musik are delighted to announce the release of "Deep Medi Releases Vol.1" - a compilation showcasing the first five 12" releases from Mala's imprint. Kicking off a brand new series, "Deep Medi Releases Vol.1" features certified classic material from 2006-07 from the likes of Kromestar, Hijak (Skream's gifted older sibling), Digital Mystikz cohorts Mala and Coki, Loefah (DMZ) and Goth-Trad.
One of dubsteps more influential founding figures, Mala, returns with Magugu on DEEP MEDi MUSIK with a release that has been circulating as a mystery dub amongst their closest confidants this summer in different spaces; whether it was Mala himself at Houghton, Skream in Ibiza, Sir Spyro shelling in heads down club space across to Four Tet laying bass weight on 80,000 ravers at HARD Fest in Hollywood. The /r track IDs requests and comments to release the tune made Malas first new release in 4 years inevitable. Mala and Magugu have always prioritised quality over quantity, creating a scarcity for new work that makes it extra special. Malas last release was 2022s A Way Back EP with Ezra Collective keys player Joe Armon-Jones. A repress of his 2007s masterpiece Changes broke prepress records for MEDi at the end of 2024, a year that saw the label win the UK label of the year at the DJ Mag Awards. For new fans and old fans of the original gestures of Anti War Dub era DMZ, this is mana from heaven, a righteous work from one of the genres South London founders. In recent years Mala has made original music for Greentea Peng, Tikiman, and remixes for Nina Kraviz, Jorja Smith, Nightmares on Wax. Dubstep & Dubplate culture in full effect !
