Filizola returns to Piston alongside label debutant Moan with the superb Wake Up. Active in music since 1990, Filizola a well-known DJ and producer in Mexico City, recognized for his remixes, including a Duran Duran track highlighted by the band on X. His performances alongside top artists have cemented his reputation, making him a standout in the scene. Moan is the brainchild of Olga Lyalina, emerging in Moscow in 2014, blending intimate, human emotion with minimalist sound, balancing pop and underground garage. Inspired by designers like Alexander Wang, MOAN channels female empowerment through her music and style. Since 2015, shes collaborated with producer Nuage, releasing acclaimed tracks on labels like Delve Deeper and Drope Records, with support from top names like Steve Bug and Nick Warren. We begin with the title track Wake Up that offers up a smooth groove with thick beats and a groovy bassline that sets a laid-back rhythm. Bright synth pads fill the space with a warm, atmospheric glow, while the mid-tempo pace keeps things steady yet captivating. A sultry vocal with a rich, flavour adds an alluring touch, seamlessly blending the elements. Smooth and seductive, with an earthy, soulful feel that draws listeners in and keeps them moving. The release concludes with Filizola and Moan being joined by Carl Bray on Slow. This one pulses with chunky beats and a mid-tempo groove, laying down a solid foundation. An infectious, powerful vocal with a raspy tone takes centre stage, captivating with its raw emotion. Strong piano chords create a striking contrast against soft, delicate piano play, adding layers of depth and texture. Our next adventure on Piston Recordings sees Rance & Maff return to the label with the fantastic Macreuse EP. This one follows their well-received Piston debut - Patrick EP that will no doubt garner a lot of attention. This is a fresh project by Seb Jesus who is based on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. He is quickly making waves across the techno, tech house, and deep house scenes. Seb is already a prominent figure under his J-Zeus alias, where hes pioneered a cutting-edge blend of Sega & Maloya Electro and founded the unique SegaPunk music style. This new venture has already seen releases on Record Union and Irreel Records, adding to his ever-growing discography. Hes also producing under his own label, Lakabane Recordings, a name were sure to hear more from in the near future. Macreuse gets us moving with a warm, soulful groove, driven by a groovy bassline and bright melodic phrases that lift the energy. Cool vocal shots punctuate the mix while dreamy pads float in the background, creating a lush, immersive atmosphere. Punchy kicks, slicing hats, and rhythmic percussions keep the rhythm tight and infectious. Intricate organ sequences weave throughout, adding depth and sophistication, making this track a perfect blend of soulful warmth and danceable energy. Up next, Parasol keeps us dancing with solid kicks and a thick, rolling bassline that forms the foundation of its infectious rhythm. Bright, playful keys add a touch of lightness, while rhythmic percussions keep the momentum flowing with a steady pulse. Were delighted to welcome back Nenad J. to Piston Recordings with his latest effort Right Now EP, which follows his last slice here – Loneliness. The gifted Swiss DJ and producer is known for his distinctive sound and powerful sonic landscapes, he creates music that captivates and energizes, bringing a fresh pulse to the label. Alongside his solo work, hes one-half of the formidable duo Aux Couture, a collaboration with fellow Swiss artist Erhalder that has been delivering standout tracks across multiple labels since 2018. A strong force in the electronic music world, Nenad also hosts the popular monthly podcast Slackjackerz and runs his own label, Аеробик. Its a pleasure to have him back with us. Right Now opens the release ushering in a pacey mover that packs a punch with thick, driving beats and sharp hats and claps cutting cleanly through the mix. Deep, subby basslines provide a powerful low-end presence, while a cool spoken vocal adds an air of intrigue. The tracks edgy vibe is underscored by its relentless, pumping groove, creating an electrifying energy thats perfect for igniting the dance floor. F__K You is up next offering a deep, sinister groove that draws you into its shadowy depths with boomy percussion, striking hats and claps that slice through the darkness. A hypnotic, rhythmic flow drives the track forward, while a cool, defiant spoken vocal delivers a raw f__k you amplifying the tracks unapologetically dark and edgy vibe. East Side Acid closes out the release with an 808 laden groove delivering booming kicks, sharp hats, shimmering cymbals, and snappy snares that create a crisp, punchy rhythm. A deep, rumbling bassline anchors the groove, while squelching 303 lines add a raw, acidic edge. Chopped vocal samples flicker throughout, adding texture and intrigue. Strypee debuts on Piston recordings with the superb Deeper. Known for his upbeat grooves and infectious energy, he has releases on respected labels like Secret Jams Recordings, Nothing But, and Farmat. Strypee has steadily gained recognition in the electronic music scene as his tracks capture the essence of deep house with a fresh, upbeat vibe that is perfect for keeping the dance floors busy. Great to have him on board. Deeper opens the release, offering up a flowing, upbeat energy thats both stylish and immersive. Classy vocals layer smoothly over a foundation of plucky basslines and warm, enveloping chords, creating a sophisticated and inviting groove. Delicate, melodic keys add a touch of elegance, while high, airy strings sweep in to heighten the mood. The groove is driven by a bed of solid beats that will definitely keep the dancefloor alive. Peters House rounds out the release, continuing the upbeat theme with solid, driving beats and rhythmic percussions laying down a dynamic, danceable groove. Warm, sweeping pads create a lush atmosphere, while airy melodies float above, adding a sense of spaciousness. A syncopated bassline adds movement and groove, perfectly complemented by vibey, jazzy keys on the break that give the track a smooth and soulful touch. South African music producer Kagiso Sithole, aka Kilogram, makes a welcome return to Piston Recordings with the excellent two-tracker, Off The Leash. Based in Johannesburg, Kilogram follows his debut – Dirty Screws, with this one. He specializes in Deep House, drawing inspiration from top producers like Saison, Dam Swindle, and Jeremy Sylvester. Although relatively new to the scene, his work has already made waves with releases on labels such as House Salad Music, Lisbon Journeys Records, and Jive Afrika Recordings. With a promising career ahead, Kilogram is sure to continue delivering quality music, and we look forward to his return to Piston Recordings in the future. Off The Leash opens the release, introing with warm, soulful piano chords that set a laid-back, loungy atmosphere, which is enhanced with crowd ambience and crackling textures. Punchy kicks and sharp claps drive the rhythm, while crispy hi-hats add a crisp, bright energy to the percussion. A lush bassline grooves underneath, creating a smooth and warm foundation. Playful, dancey keys weave in and out, adding a fun, rhythmic flair, while chopped vocal shots punctuate the track with dynamic, rhythmic accents. Not to be missed. Monk In Blue concludes the release, opening with a subtle crowd ambience, setting an intimate, live vibe. Infectious, warm chords wash over chunky beats, creating a welcoming and groovy atmosphere.
