Georgian powerhouse Yanamaste drops long-anticipated new EP on Mutual Rytm. In-demand DJ/producer Yanamaste is a resident at Georgias renowned Khidi Club and a key part of Amsterdams Vault Sessions crew. His unique sound and fresh creative approach result in raw and visceral techno, reflecting his passion for pushing boundaries and showcased perfectly via his Dance EP on Vault last year. Now, he returns with an EP born out of the creative process behind his live set with a debut appearance on SHDWs Mutual Rytm, Evil - a collection of heavily-requested tracks that have already made an impact after featuring in his Boiler Room and Stone Techno Festival livestream. Evil kicks things off with perfectly rubbery, funky drum patterns and an urgent sense of movement that sweeps you off your feet. Lahante is more percussive, with busy snares riding the rolling, forceful drums and stark synths arresting your attention. Dragonfly is perfectly reduced via minimal drums intertwined with thunderous effects and ghoulish energy, while Modulation Detected has a more cosmic feel as it journeys into the future with whispered spoken words and synths searching across the face of the groove. Last but not least is the irresistible broken beat goodness of Walking On Mars, with its swinging kicks and vast bassline spraying about the mix beneath hypnotic melodic patterns. Two superb bonus cuts, Ohohoi and Pwiu, are also provided for digital buyers, bringing further gems loaded with moody depths and compelling rhythms.
ANNĒ and Sera J close their Symbiosis series on Mutual Rytm with third and most refined EP yet. This final chapter reflects everything the collaboration has stood for across a trio of inventive techno releases on SHDWs imprint. Creative and life partners ANNĒ and Sera J have been two voices growing in parallel, evolving separately but moving with the same pulse. ANNĒ is well established thanks to standout EPs on the likes of Soma and Hardgroove, while Sera J has released on the likes of Life in Patterns and Renegade Methodz, and both have featured on Mutual Rytms Federation Of Rytm series before now. Symbiosis III is the moment where everything comes full circle: the culmination of a journey built on respect, creativity, and the freedom to explore their own paths while lifting each other forward. Sera J kicks off with Ransomware, a commanding and driving techno cut lit up with flashy synths but always moving with urgency. Phosphate keeps the energy levels high with stripped-back drums and bass designed to perfection, while Anthrax has an anxious edge. The synths are wispy but evocative as bass kills and swiping filters bring the drama. ANNĒ then ups the ante with the acid-tinged Dementia, which is loopy and unrelenting before A Taste of a Real Woman gets more seductive with a sultry spoken word and sustained chords that bring the paranoia. Heart Rate is propulsive with Detroit-style synth soul and an aching vocal, before Sera J returns with On the Run - a percussive, trippy and eerie roller. His final Cut Similar Minds has a searching synth surveying a desolate landscape, before ANNĒ then closes the EP with the punchy drum patterns and icy hi hats of Primal Howl Of Ego and a blend of deep drums and evocative synth work on the Analog Heartbeat - which proves potent techno can be beautiful.
Iconic Icelandic techno mainstay Exos returns to Mutual Rytm with his fifth LP, Sweet Dreams. The 12-track record is the first album on SHDWs influential label and explores the past, present, and future of techno. Planet X label head and 20-year scene veteran Exos, hailing from Iceland, draws on his native countrys influences in his work, which explores the interplay between light and dark, warmth and cold. His high-octane sounds over the last 20 years have appeared on vital imprints like Tresor, X/OZ, and, of course, Mutual Rytm, with his releases for the label having been extremely well received, garnering support from the scenes key DJs. Whether dubby or hard, his techno is always authentic and channels the purity of the 90s style. This new album follows Exoss inaugural X- Release, the Infrared 10, the Icebreaker 12 from last year, and his track on the latest Federation of Rytm IV compilation. Its a real journey through all facets of his sound, including a trip back to his dub techno roots, ambient explorations, and emotional vocal pieces with lifelong memories fused into sounds that reflect the artists decades spent in Iceland. Sweet Dreams opens with an atmospheric intro in the form of a 28-year-old collaboration with his father. This full- bodied analogue ambient piece is rich with the mysterious tones of the Nord Modular and was recorded during their shared studio days at D17 in Reykjavík. The title track is a hypnotic, linear groove with icy synth modulations and glistening melodies. Hinn Víðförli then brings dub warmth while State of Mind recalls the spirit of the legendary Reykjavík club Thomsen, a cornerstone of Icelands late 90s underground scene. Glaður og Reifur and Fögur er hlíðinpay homage to the echoes of ancient Viking heritage, North of January conveys the cold of Exoss homeland, and Hvarvetna brings textured percussion and darker undertones before 101 After Dark slows to a bass-heavy broken beat exploration of texture and post-dubstep pressure. After the heady and atmospheric sound of The Dolphin Oracle, another key collaboration comes with Freefall, an emotional breakbeat piece featuring vocalist Amelia Rodriguez, who also lends her voice to Shock, a magnificent track that channels Exoss modern techno energy. The album closes with a haunting paradox, Paradise Lost, questioning whether our sweet dreams are truly moments of bliss or simply reflections of what weve already left behind. The three bonus digital cuts offer sleek minimalism, punchy deep techno, and suspenseful ambient.
Alarico returns to Mutual Rytm with his 'Drops Of You' EP, packed with his mind-bending signature rhythms while focussing on a more minimal and atemporal approach than before. Milan-based artist Alarico has firmly arrived on the world stage in recent years. Taking cues from the harder realms of techno of the 90s, he adds his own quirky rhythms and quickened sense of groove to showcase his modern take on the genre. Building on material dropping via his own Katana Records, with high-profile support from big- name DJs across the scene, he breaks new ground again here on this compelling new EP as he returns to SHDW's label Mutual Rytm with 'Drops Of You'. Excellent opener '0 Kelvin' races out of the blocks with wiry synths and percussion that sounds like knives being sharpened, all over tight, punchy techno drums. 'One More' then gets more twisted with freaky synth lines scurrying about the mix while hammering hits and bouncy drum programming races onwards into an unknown future. 'Asma' slips into a deeper but no less impactful groove - the tightly coiled drum funk is overlaid with soulful vocal whispers and militant snares that cannot fail to sweep dancers away. Next, the slick 'Sunburn' keeps the pace high and is another warp-speed techno excursion with bold drum patterns and dry hi-hats cutting up the beats. It's a fulsome sound fleshed out with great synth detail and euphoric vocal cries, before closer 'Drops Of You' layers broken beats, vocal snippets and psychedelic synth colours into an intense and emotional workout. Alongside the vinyl cuts, three digital-only offerings are also loaded into this one as a trio of treats in the form of 'Sino', 'What For' and 'Erased', with each track harnessing pacy, energetic rhythms, a mix of bright and murky sonics, and tunnelling grooves crafted for maximum impact.
