Welcome, time travelers. Our twenty-sixth little adventure into Ethereality is another special one. After the seminal Éire by Richard McMaster, but before we unleash another year of future classics, we look back at the past year and present Back To The Future Part II. This compilation is a celebration of where we have been so far, inviting each of the six artists who have provided original and fantastic material to remix one another, leaving the choice of which production to reinterpret entirely up to them. First up is Bjorn Salvador, who gives The Naked Sun by Jakhira a deep twist. The throbbing bass drum is perfectly paired with spacey sounds and scintillating synths, while the breakdown introduces a blissful bansuri that soothes the soul. Northcat offers a different take on Gone by Ben Monday. The giant stab hook purposefully thrusts us into pure progressive territory, joined by the original piano chords to create majestic mayhem on the dancefloor. Jakhira digs into Broken River by Fiordland. Cosmic soundscapes and live percussion add a sense of urgency, while analogue synths drive the tone into darker depths. Richard McMaster gives some love to Mama by Bjorn Salvador. Combining intricate delicacy with powerful punch, the soaring strings and humble harps create an awesome sense of wonder. Fiordland explores the Otherside by Northcat & Jakhira. Playful and mature in equal measure, he sprinkles elements of the original over tribal rhythms and infectious ear candy. Absolutely delicious. Ben Monday provides the eponymous Epilogue by Kindred Spirits with a hypnotic rendition. Thunderous bass tones add weight to the pretty pads and cosy choirs of the original. Time circuits on, getting back was only the beginning. And we have a great future behind us.
