A prolific and talented artist, Michael A now debuts on Meanwhile with his Bansuri / Orridian EP. A Belarusian producer with almost 1,500 credits to his name, Michael A has carved out a sizable niche for himself since his debut work for Stereofaza and Fluro Music in early 2012. Over a hundred of these credits can be found on his own Genesis Music imprint, with a substantial number appearing on a host of blue-chip imprints that include the likes of Replug, Perspectives Digital and Hernan Cattaneos Sudbeat Music. Moreover, almost a century of credits can be found on the long-running an iconic, Proton Music, with 12,000 Beatport followers to its name, including the much-lauded Fantasy series which released its fifth volume in June 2024. Now making a very welcome debut on GMJ & Matters flagship label, opener Bansuri is a typically deep and dominant track that bristles with dark energy. A driving peat provides a relentless propulsion mechanism as an immaculately programmed bassline sits perfectly within the mix. Rapid-fire shakers and hats create subtle urgency and tension while a light and airy melodic sequence gradually evolves, lifting the whole track out of its oppressive floor-filling character at the breakdown with an ethereal blend of spine-tingling melody. Dropping back into its rhythmic foundations in the second half with dynamic intent, the central melodic themes come to force once more in a majestic denouement. Partner track, Orridian continues the dancefloor narrative with its whip-cracking, chest thumping kick before a gently pulsating bassline displays additional low-end purpose. Intricate percussive shakers and intermittent effects generate a rich and squelching stereo-panned melange as layer upon layer of energy and intrigue is created in a sumptuous sonic tapestry. Pausing for breath at the mid-point, another light and refreshing melodic sequence develops with effortless ease. Hitting its stride once more in the third movement, the interlocked rhythmic and bassline patterns of earlier phrase emerge once more, this time accompanied by delicate motifs and multi-textured pads. Worth his wait in gold for a Meanwhile debut, Michael A excels in hallmark fashion with Bansuri / Orridian . Directed by GMJ & Matter Mastered by Cid Inc. Design by Matter Text by James Warren

A returning artist to the Meanwhile catalogue, EMPHI builds on his growing support and popularity with a brand-new twin-track EP in the form of Walk With Me / Research Myself. Hailing from the Swedish capital, EMPHI has lit up the world of Progressive House in the first half of the 2020s with his tracks filled with vibrant percussion and anthemic melodies. Able to point to a growing number of blue-chip labels that have featured his work, Kasey Taylors Vapour Recordings, Alex ORions Solis Records, as well as the number 1 selling Mango Alley and iconic Balance Music, have all played host to EMPHIs production talent since a 2020 debut on Odd One Out. Meanwhile has also been a key component in seeing the Stockholm resident soar to new heights. A pair of tracks have featured on the Meanwhile Excursions series with The Box on July 2022s Vol. 2 and Azur on Vol. 3 a year later. Now returning for a third appearance and a full solo EP, Walk With Me is propelled forward by a deep and penetrating kick. At the same time, a fizzing percussive top-line of hats and shakers provides the backdrop for a hypnotic bassline groove to anchor a series of sweeping, stereo-panned effects and vocal loop to flow seamlessly across the 7-minute piece. A catchy lead motif then provides melodic interest as it filters its way through proceedings from the mid-point onwards and into a stripped-down break. Building once more, the final movement explodes into a cadenced square wave synth that cuts through the mix with sumptuous pads adding to the soundscape. Partner track, Research Myself immediately comes alive with a delicious head-shaking rhythmic pattern that creates a call and answer sequence with subtle synth placement. A chorus of hi-hats and shaker patterns adds further to the dancefloor arrangement as exquisitely placed slow attack chords and delicious effects create a hypnotising sonic collage. Rising and falling with immaculate ease, the track contains all the hallmarks of the EMPHI production skillset in a seething dancefloor gem. Journeying to new frontiers on a voyage of self-discovery, EMPHI reaches new heights with Walk With Me / Research Myself. Directed by GMJ & Matter Mastered by Cid Inc. Starting the new year with a bang, GMJ & Matter return to their renowned Meanwhile imprint with another sumptuous twin-track EP, courtesy of Cryo / Keepers. 2025 was yet another year to remember for GMJ & Matter. From gigs across their native Australian homeland, to Skyline Glasgow, Balance Croatia and Prague, to another sold out Meanwhile showcase in conjunction with Vapour Records at Club Akhnaton for ADE, the duos tour schedule has racked up the air miles and lit up clubs and festivals across the globe. In tandem, their production output has shone equally brightly with Telomeres on Meanwhile in March 2025, the Apex / Undergrowth EP on Kasey Taylors Vapour in May, Aprils stunning Voyage Austral with Pole Folder on All Day I Dream and the vibrant Red Sky on Balance Music in July. Remixes for Mango Alley, Songspire Records and Sirup Music have continued to provide an iridescent aura over the duos increasingly sought-after remix work. Opener, Cryo, bristles with bassline brio as a pulsating sub hits the listener square in the chest. A fizzing percussion adds urgency, and a thumping beat provides dancefloor energy. Evolving easily through its phases, a glorious analogue synth cuts across the mix like a hot knife through butter, coming to fore at the mid-point break. Hitting its straps in the second half, the combination of rhythm, bass and melody combine in a magical alchemy that transcends the Progressive House genre. Keepers continues the club-friendly vibe with a rolling percussive groove and sumptuously filtered pads. Using syncopated elements to devastating effect, a subtle motif adds vibrancy before a generous, free-flowing synth creates a mystical dynamism redolent in delays and reverb that percolate throughout the mix. Never dropping in pace, rising tension is created using snare rolls, before the energy is dissipated in a powerful drop that illustrates bassline bravado juxtaposed against melodic charm. Cryo / Keepers once again demonstrates GMJ & Matters unerring ability to create sparkling musical gems, frozen within a timeless rhythmic milieu. Directed by GMJ & Matter Mastered by Cid Inc. Approaching the end of another successful year, Meanwhile welcomes Fran Garay to the label with the powerful Restored / Irresponsible / Ill Be Better EP. Immersed in the world of electronic music from an early age, Fran Garay journeyed along a pathway of Dubstep and EDM before reaching a destination where he discovered Progressive House aged 16, inspired by the sounds of MartÃn GarcÃa. From this epiphany, the Argentine producer has quickly become a staple of the progressive fraternity with over a century of production credits dating back to a 2020 debut on 3rd Avenue. Since then, Balkan Connection, Paul Thomass UV Noir, Forty Cats PURRFECTION and Mangos Mango Alley have played host to the Fran Garay sound. Now the Villa Mercedes resident from San Luis province returns to Meanwhile after a debut on September 2024s Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 4 compilation. Showcasing his distinctive and versatile sound, Restored is powered by traditional, club-friendly tropes. A dynamic rhythmic backdrop creates a high-energy vibe while a rolling bassline groove creates dancefloor character. A syncopated motif brings mid-range joy in effortlessly shifting repetitions, culminating in a white noise-fuelled breakdown before reaching its zenith in the second half. Here, the full cast of melodic and rhythmic actors join forces in a chorus of pitched synth phrases that rise, in siren-like intensity, before dropping back into the magnificent rhythm and bassline melange of earlier phases. Irresponsible boasts a huge thumping beat and rolling groove, while a subterranean bassline joins the throng, blending seamlessly alongside the rising melodic themes. Held together with an invisible sonic glue, a cascading and fractured analogue lead sequence glistens like shards of broken glass in the autumn sunlight. Subtly shifting patterns of light and dark rise and fall in intensity as the complex melodic patterns rotate around a central theme. The result is an innovative and unique track. Following the themes of its predecessor, Ill Be Better, continues the driving rhythmic framework with lighter shaker patterns adding delicate urgency. Once again, shifting motifs are in full evidence, this time punctuated by a flowing freeform pattern that gradually appears from the second movement. Evolving easily, the track erupts after the mid-point breakdown into a glorious collage of shifting sonic patterns that command listener attention, in turn creating an awe-inspiring listener experience. Full of intriguing sonic landscapes and a unique approach to his craft, Fran Garay has certainly risen to new heights with his Restored / Irresponsible / Ill Be Better EP.
