DYSTORTION Extrawelts Latest and Longest-Brewing Album Lands This December on Cocoon In this beautiful world marked by rising chaos, sometimes the simplest way to escape its troubles is through sonic relief. Germanys renowned electronic duo Extrawelt will offer exactly that with their 5th full-length album, DYSTORTION, via Cocoon Recordings this December. For over two decades, the humble duo behind Extrawelt, who shy away from making music for clicks, have been a steadfast presence in electronic music. Known as serious studio and tour-focused artists who craft timepiece albums, each a work of enduring craft, that go on to create atmospheric, out-of-the-box live acts, theyve been shaping and redefining electronica since their first release. DYSTORTION is their most diverse and evocative album to date. Imagined over six years and shaped by a world in flux through COVID, political upheavals, social media, and AI, it reflects the contrasts and twists weve all felt while offering surges of serenity and hope. From brooding tension to playful relief, it moves through different states in an evolved Extrawelt manner. The albums opening credit, Grand Départ, as if a cinematic prelude, invites us into a world of creeping bass, an explicitly Extrawelt sound thats synonymous with the anti-genre genre they work within. The albums second track, Clapland, sees Extrawelt joining forces with Jimi Jules, a name synonymous with excellence in electronic music, creating a rare collaboration that is felt in every note. Soon, the mood shifts into softer melodies as heard in Surrounded By Miracles, Hope Sounds Good, and Sir Stringalot, which bring bright euphorics to balance the darker moments in an album echoed by industrial influences. Later, as Dystortion (the albums title track) unfolds, were drawn into something few electronic artists can create: raw emotion. This is a gritty landscape as reflective as it is pulsing, glitchy, intense, and richly textured. DYSTORTION is a reflection of a complex, divided world, carried through dramatically with Extrawelts signature techno tension. Like the world right now, it is full of contradictions, surprises, and moments of introspection, an essential listen for fans of mature electronic music that may or may not need a reminder of why, after 20 years, were still listening.

A natural follow-up to Breathe In in both sound and meaning, Breathe Out sees a new, healthier and reconnected Armin van Buuren deliver the second and final part of his ninth studio album, Breathe. Inspired by a stronger sense of self, more creativity and an even more dauntless approach to studio work, the album comprises a total of 38 tracks, from chart-topping hits to surprising collaborations (e.g. Pendulum & Rob Swire, Sam Gray, Moby, Bon Jovi) and new tracks, such as Let It Be For Love (feat. Jai Ryu) and Gimme The Love (with Seth Hills, feat. Alessia Labate). It is chockful of sound fusions and expert songwriting, showing that a balanced mind and lifestyle can lead to wonder. Breathe Out really shows how far Ive come, not just as an artist, but as a person. This album is about creative freedom, living fully, and putting everything Ive learned – especially through my journey with mental health and self-growth – into the music. In many ways, it feels like coming full circle. – Armin van Buuren

Remixing a classic can be an impossible task however, Italian global superstars Meduza have delivered in spades, with an unmistakable sentience for the dance floor buoyed by their catalogue of over 15 billion cumulative streams. Meduza: "Supermode 'Tell Me Why' is an iconic song, and Axtone an iconic label, so it was an honour to be asked to remix the record. We wanted to make it sound bigger and more powerful for the stages and clubs, and judging by the reactions from the crowds we have played it to, we succeeded". Finished just in time for this year's Miami Music Week, Triple A DJ support swiftly followed from Axwell, Steve Angello, David Guetta, Kygo, Vintage Culture, Oliver Heldens, ARTBAT and Cedric Gervais, all subsequently playing live and on air. Supermode is a duo made up of Axwell & Steve Angello, with 'Tell Me Why' sampling a pair of Bronski Beat songs and released through the Ministry of Sound in 2006. Whilst the Meduza remix takes the track on a new path in the clubs and festival stages, the original has been having a moment amongst Gen Z. Australian trailblazer; Fisher has been playing the track with the sound receiving thousands of uses both on Tiktok and Instagram, garnering views in the millions and showing no sign of abating.
MiZi MuZiK dives deep into the futuristic drum and synth work of Spains Patrick McCreanor for catalog no. 8. Across two originals and an acid-tinged reimagination by MANTi & Mira, Pulsar explores an ascetic soundscape of percussion-heavy House and Techno, where sub-driven physicality, drifting alien tonalities, and a visceral instinct for the bleeding edge of club music converge. Pulsar lays out a high-octane hybrid between rolling Big-Room and extraterrestrial tribalism: bone-dry percussive figures cycle over a cavernous rumble, while an eclectic array of inserts—an MC hook evaporating into transmission static, or the jittery contortions of an acid-laced, electric didgeridoo—flash strobing energy arcs across tracks crushing figures of mangled rides and claps. MANTis & Miras rendition of Pulsar retains the originals drum-centric core, but bends it into an acid-tinged, slow-burning dancefloor anthem. Leaning into more organic soundscapes, the duo coax the originals crushing severity into a rolling percussive structure that breathes stunning vitality into Patricks eerie, one-of-a-kind atmospheres. Thorium adds a sense of hypnotism to Patricks darkly oscillating aesthetic. Pitch-bent sirens hover over shadowy atmospheres and erratically cycling percussive impacts, conjuring a dark energy that grows in urgency with every rotation. Across a carpet of booming, relentless subbass, Thorium unfolds a soundtrack to the robot uprising with strange and powerful emotionality at its core. On Pulsar, Patrick McCreanor carves out a space where club futurism and primal rhythmic instinct meld. The result is a xenomorphing two-tracker that channels the strobing, unstable energy of a neutron star.
