After successful collaborations spanning Mexico and Bukhara, electronic music producer Itzhak Genish, known professionally as Genish, ventures to Goa, India for his latest creative endeavor. The Je Toon EP marks the third chapter in his ambitious series exploring traditional music through a contemporary electronic lens. Working alongside talented Indian musicians Yash Nirwan and Shivam Bhardwaj, Genish has crafted an innovative fusion that transforms classical Indian instrumentation into house-inflected rhythms. The EP showcases the rich timbres of sarods, sitars, tablas, Indian cellos, and harmoniums, reimagined through Genishs distinctive production style. The opening track Padh Padh establishes an introspective tone with meditative flute melodies and vocals performed by Shivam Bhardwaj. Drawing from Sufi poetry by the revered Bulleh Shah, the track offers a contemplative entry point into the EPs landscape. Je Toon, the title track, shifts gears dramatically with electro-charged bhangra-influenced dance music. The composition serves as a tribute to legendary qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, specifically referencing his celebrated work Akhian De Samne. Genishs production bridges the gap between traditional South Asian musical forms and modern dancefloor energy. This release continues Genishs mission to create meaningful musical dialogues across cultures, honoring traditional forms while pushing them into new sonic territories. The Je Toon EP demonstrates that electronic music can serve as a universal language, connecting diverse musical traditions through infectious rhythms and innovative production.
