Mexican duo MAHO (Gabriel Montaño and Maria Garza) deliver a gem with their single Sabes Que Sí. This whole release masterfully edges the boundaries between Indie Dance and Latin House. The original appears on MAHOs album Magia on Once Records and offers quirky and smooth Latin vibes underpinning Marias beautiful vocal stylings switching back and forth between Spanish and English. Musumeci delivers a powerful club version with pumping drums, a strong bassline, and cutting synth stabs. Roam Recordings label boss Jason Peters bangs it out with an electronic disco bass and hard hitting drums while keeping some of the subtle house elements of the original. Chinosynth rounds it out with a relaxed yet driving hypnotic vibe with the vocals swirling over an uplifting soundscape. Art by Cristina Capetillo.
Belgium Duo Marching Machines joins Roam Recordings with a delightful EP of thoughtful electronic music that, while it can be filed under indie dance/dark disco, has a sound of its own. The title track Alfheim is an anthem born of machines that does the duos namesake proud. Heimdal takes the mood into a darker realm with its masterful synth worth over perfectly programmed drum machines. Midgaard keeps it dark with its driving arpeggios underpinning lush pads. The EP is backed by excellent remixes from Younger Than Me and Mufti. Younger Than Me is up first with an uptempo rave version that brings psychedelic acid to the party. Roam alumni Mufti brings the tempo back down into a groove with a warbly bass leading to a refreshing melody to round out the EP. Album Art by Cristina Capetillo.
Label boss Jason Peters returns with a new EP on his own imprint, Roam Recordings. In this latest offering titled In the Dark, JP collaborates with Alona of 40 Thieves fame, crafting a fun yet moody dark disco experience. The EP kicks off with the title track In the Dark, a dancefloor-ready anthem with arpeggiated basslines and energetic melodies underpinning Alonas sultry voice. Accompanying the original is a remix from the talented Vhyce, who pushes In the Dark into an even darker realm, layering in classic drum machine beats and intense, serious vibes. The EP also features an instrumental version of In the Dark for those who crave the pure essence of the track. Rounding out the release is The Way You Are, a hypnotic, driving tune that pulses with energy.
Teniente Castillo returns to Roam Recordings with Two to Tango - an artfully crafted dark offering backed by a strong set of remixers that carry the integrity of the original into uniquely different areas. The original version from Play Pal Music label boss combines guitars and electronic sounds in a way that both sounds like a live band and an abstract excerpt from a conscious machine. Legendary New York artist Justin Strauss takes on the first remix adding a vocal that sounds like it was always meant to be underpinned by an exquisite liquid bassline. Thomass Jackson is up next with a beautifully quirky rendition that feels like an after party for which you want to be invited. Kaputt club resident Nuclear Digital Transistor rounds out the EP with a percussive version that brings out the guitars from the original in a new light and we gotta say if uniquely fitting basslines are your thing Nuclear Digital Transistor seals the deal on this four track EP. Justin Strauss Remix recorded by W. Andrew Raposo en La Piscina, Brooklyn, NY and mixed by Jonathan Kreinik. Album Art by Cristina Capetillo.
