Photek is one of the most influential and forward-thinking figures in electronic music. Born Rupert Parkes in 1972, he emerged in the early 1990s as a founding architect of drum & bass and jungle, pioneering an 'intelligent,' minimalist production style defined by razor-sharp drum programming, atmospheric texture, and influences spanning jazz and classic techno. His 1997 debut Modus Operandi, alongside his early work on Metalheadz, remains a defining blueprint for the genre - but Photek has always resisted being defined by it, building a catalogue that moves fluidly across the wider electronic landscape and beyond.\n\nThat restless versatility carried his work onto the biggest screens in the world. Photek contributed music to films including Blade (1998) and The Animatrix, and composed for acclaimed television such as How to Get Away with Murder. His remix work earned him three consecutive Grammy Award nominations for Best Remixed Recording - for Daft Punk's 'End of Line' from Tron: Legacy (2012), Moby's 'Lie Down in Darkness' (2013), and 'One Love/People Get Ready' (2014). It was this demand as a composer and remixer, rather than any creative pause, that quieted his output under the Photek alias - even as he continued releasing music independently through his own website throughout the past decade.\n\nNow Photek returns to the spotlight with his new single '30 Seconds Out,' out June 17th, as he begins a new chapter with The Circuit Group for management and a go-forward publishing partnership with Red Wire.
