ECHO DEEP REIMAGINES BUSI MHLONGO\n\nM2KR presents Sono Sam (Echo Deep Stripped Mix), a new interpretation by acclaimed South African producer Echo Deep. The original song BHOYI was taken from Max Laesser's album BETWEEN. Recorded during the 1995 Outernational Meltdown Sessions, the remarkable collaboration between Busi Mhlongo and Swiss guitarist Max Lässer was recorded at Downtown Studios in Johannesburg South Africa.\n\nTshepo Molefe aka Echo Deep raised in Soweto, has become one of South Africa's most respected Deep and Afro-house producers. \nEmerging onto the scene at the age of eighteen, he quickly gained recognition for his precision, musical sensitivity and understated approach to dance music. Over the years he has built an international following through releases on labels including House Afrika and Motherland Distribution, while developing a sound characterised by warm percussion, spacious arrangements and an instinctive understanding of groove.\n\nWithin the M2KR universe, Echo Deep has steadily established himself as an artist capable of bridging heritage recordings with contemporary electronic production. His journey began in 2023 with soulful reinterpretations of Moses Taiwa Molelekwa's Tsala and Kwaze Kwangcono, introducing a new generation of listeners to the late pianist's catalogue.\n\nIn 2025 he expanded this dialogue through his remix of Madala Kunene's Uxolo, followed by Masihlanganeni (Stop the Killings), a collaboration revisiting the work of Madala Kunene and Robert Doc Mthalane featuring Lungiswa Plaatjies. These productions confirmed Echo Deep's ability to honour the emotional core of historic recordings while translating them into contemporary listening experiences.\n\nSono Sam (Echo Deep Stripped Mix), released at the end of July 2026, marks Echo Deep's first engagement with the recorded legacy of Busi Mhlongo. \n\nThe result is a meeting across three decades: the original vision of Busi Mhlongo and Max Lässer, the enduring spirit of the MELT2000 catalogue, and the contemporary sound world of Echo Deep.
