Kaleidoscopic EP
Dekmantel continues to shape out the return of its UFO series with an EP of mind-massaging techno-trance futurism from Wata Igarashi. Capturing the energy of the UFO stages which indulge Dekmantel Festivals darker, experimental tastes, Igarashi turns out four shapely serotonin injections in his inimitable style. Theres an immediacy to the Kaleidoscopic 12 which rushes into earshot the moment the EP fires up with the insistent acid throb of the title track. The eternal undulation of a 303 provides the bedrock for Igarashis fluttering brushstrokes, while a tough yet supple beat charges underneath. Cascading arps are a core element of the richly melodic sound on this release, reaching measured peaks of ecstasy on The Sailage without ever taking a cheap shortcut. Understated, emotionally-charged eloquence spills out of every sequence. Theres a softer, blurry-eyed sentiment to the synth work on Steaming, while Interweave tempers classic acid techno tropes with gaseous atmospherics. There are plenty of crisp edges in his tracks for the dancers to latch onto, but Igarashi specialises in a fluid motion that encourages less thinking and more feelinga lysergic techno flow to truly melt into.

After releasing five sell out various artists EPs featuring 25 artists, positivesource is excited to present a new chapter for the label with a diverse and anthemic EP from Berlin based producer Regent. No stranger to the label, Regent contributed to src005 last year with his smooth techno roller Off Agenda alongside music from Neri J, Alpha Tracks, Vil & Cravo. His tracks have featured heavily in DJ sets by label founders Blue Hour and Philippa Pacho over the years, naturally the idea to present the first artist EP on positivesource with Regent comes as no surprise. The record starts on a hypnotic tip with Occult, grooving along with an infectious bass-line swung beats and blissed out atmospherics before stepping up the energy levels on Khmera, a relentless chord driven percussive anthem with nostalgic vocals rising to new heights. On the flip the title track Aphid Riot is bold and vibrant leaning heavily into UK flavours using sliced up vocals, breakbeats and a classic Reece bass-line. Completing the record is a broken version of Aphid Riot highlighting an ethereal tonal melody with a deeper and more introspective take on the original. Its a new sound exploration from the producer, demonstrating his versatility and perhaps a rare moment in his discography.

The Remixes
Rowan Blades and Simon Noble's late 90's Breeder bombs Tyrantanic, Twilo Thunder and The Chain, recently underwent hundreds of quality remixes via a public vote /online competition. After much participation / deliberation, The People's Progressive Committee (INTNL) spoke. We're not hugely surprised that two of the victorious production outfits hailed from South America. Over the last 25 years, the region's established itself as an epicentre of progressive house's enduring global reach, helped along the way no doubt by charismatic ever present Hernan Cattaneo. And the big man himself has already been playing Argentinian duo Freedo Mosho and Maze 28 remix of Tyrantanic, with it's moody build, explosive breakdown and big ass kick in, all enhanced by understatedly high production. A worthy winner. Mexico City DJ / Production duo (Jonas) Zstimer & (Chanock) Wru are long established players in that exuberant City, and their widescreen remix of The Chain feels custom built for lazer driven night life : a rolling, funk inflected groove, topped off by lazer driven synths that feel like they'd work in an Italo set as well as any progressive one. Rounding things off, Stoke on Trent / UK veteran Lee Jordan goes off down a different path, adding stepping breaks to 'Twilo Thunder' and a welcome alternative to the 4/4 assault.
