Be it serendipity, karma, top producer meets damn good A&R, likeminded souls finding cultural common ground as they bond musically across the ether…or most likely a combo of all the above. Which is how the incredibly talented UnbrokenOne, long time Digweed favourite, makes a most welcome Selador debut with this storming EP. What instantly jumps out from the grooves contained herein is a deep knowledge of electronic music in all its myriad forms. This is what enables lead track Wilderness to rise above sub-genres and pigeonholes. Its intricacies, as a series of infectious riffs, well chosen vocal snippets and percussive ingenuity weave in and out of each other, are a thing of beauty. Its a case of the parts are great, the sum of them even greater. Sister track Gradient, if youll allow us to channel our inner football pundit for a moment, sets its stall out early doors. Deepndark from the off, squelchily hypnotic, rising slowly but oh so surely to a melodic / epic crescendo. And its a warm Seladorian welcome back to Colombias finest, Kamilo Sanclemente, this time in collaborative tandem with another label debutant, his countryman Mauro Aguirre. An Argentine pair of impressive credentials, Gonzalo Sacc and Franco Leonardini make their collaborative debut on Clubsonica with the Honey | Jack of All Trades EP. A single remix comes courtesy of Juan Ibanez. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Gonzalo Sacc has rock-solid provenance in the realm of electronic music. Having attended the Escuela de Música de Buenos Aires (EMBA), the Argentinean producer has been at the vanguard of his countrys music scene with a varied sound that encompasses everything from Downtempo, to Deep and Progressive House. First hitting the Balkan Connection catalogue in mid-2018, Gonzalos work for Clubsonica saw the My Home | Let Me Go EP released in early 2022 alongside Frankie M and Rodrigo Lapena. Together with fellow countryman, Franco Leonardini, the duo has secured a half-century of production credits on such esteemed imprints as Armen Mirans Hoomidaas, Paul Hazendonks Manual and MNL, plus Nick Warrens The Soundgarden. Combining on Honey, sumptuous deep house chords quickly head into a bouncing bassline groove and pounding beat. Ticking hats create a rolling percussive groove while a rousing crescendo of melodic elegance continues to evolve, playing homage to the deeper sound of earlier phrasing. A delicate vocal effect adds further to listener interest at the breakdown before a subtle counterpoint motif drops in throughout the third movement. Partner track, Jack of All Trades continues with a whip-cracking, chest-thumping kick/snare combination that provides a ready-made dancefloor groove. Dubby chords, filtered arpeggios, and house pianos combine in a veritable smorgasbord of melodic flow that rises and falls with club-friendly know-how, hitting a natural zenith with an immaculately timed filtered synth lead that opens up through the second half. Hailing from La Rioja, named after its Spanish namesake, Juan Ibanez has been a staple on a plethora of esteemed underground house labels. Coming to the fore in 2018 with early work on SLC-6 Music, the Argentine star has found his music allied to such notable labels as The Soundgarden, Mango Alley, and the ever-reliable onedotsixtwo. Hitting the Clubsonica headlines in February 2021 with the Haumea EP, Joy Trip followed a month later before a remix of Rockka and Maze 28s Mirage started off 2024 in style. Now returning, the Juan Ibanez remix of Honey is a stunning progressive gem that shines from every facet with a huge rhythmic groove and devastating sub-bass sequence. Playing homage to the original, melodic themes from Honey come to the fore as they are extended in new and vibrant directions, showcasing Juans undoubted talent. Rising in energy throughout its duration, the Juan Ibanez interpretation is a modern Progressive House masterpiece of dynamism and head-shaking vitality. SLC-6 Music proudly presents Franco Armellinis Skins with remixes from Juan Ibanez, Steve Kelley, and Tom Pavicich. The release features two originals named for characters in the eponymous British TV series. Effy is an introspective journey that flows through dark, melodic passages, evoking a deep and restrained emotional tension. Like Effy, the character who inspired the piece, the track holds back more than it reveals, perfect for that moment in a set when the body enters a trance. Cassie is born from a place of bittersweet tenderness. It feels brighter, lighter—almost innocent—but theres a subtle emotional pulse that runs through it from the very first beat. The lead melody intrigues with every sound feels like a beautiful memory thats starting to glitch. The groove is warm and comforting, but never shallow. The drop is the core of the track: a brief, glitchy breakdown that feels like a moment of emotional collapse wrapped in joy, and this is where the track becomes Cassie - bright on the outside, fragile underneath. Accompanying the two originals are three excellent remixes. D.J. MacIntyres label welcomes back one of its stalwart artists, Juan Ibanez, who delivers a progressive interpretation of Effy in his inimitable style replete with groovy rhythms and uplifting melodies. Veteran producer Steve Kelley joins the label for the first time with a delicious deep house take on Cassie that is simultaneously both warm and crystalline.
