FR Fels and Interviews join forces for a collaborative 12 entitled The Adventures of Helmut Muten. Comprising four tracks, the duo navigate across genres with ease. Opening the EP with the late night bloom of Passage, followed by the rollicking groove of Drift, the scuffed beats of V5000 and, closing procedures, the beatless, brooding 3 Years.
The Munich-based label ZEN DNA proudly presents the awaited Lazarusman & Stanny Abram collaboration. Lazarusman, the versatile artist from Johannesburg, fuses slam poetry, DJing, and production, shaping the underground dance scene. Slovenias Stanny Abram, a globally acclaimed DJ, producer, and musician, explores Electro to Tech House with constant innovation. Stanny's upbringing in post-communist Slovenia and Lazarusman's in post- apartheid South Africa reflect their nations' deep historical traumas under past totalitarian regimes. "Domain" epitomizes freedom, lyrically and musically, spanning Acid House, Electro, Breaks, and more. Featuring a stellar remix by Electro sensation Art Was Art. Embrace freedom!
For more than thirty years, Ruud Lekx has been corrupting hearts and minds with his unmistakable brand of synthesizer music. Under his Rude 66 mask, this titan of electronics returns to Bordello A Parigi with twelve darkened tracks for Conditioning Consciousness. Tempos glide low in the opening incantations. From the breathy murmurings of Magick Angels Invocations, the listener is brought into Rudes world. Shauna Lekxs signature vocoder lyrics and blackened subject matter are central tenets, as are hauntingly delicate melodies. The Riddler In Me is a deep psychological journey through cable and circuit, an unsettling monologue accompanied by liquid analogue lines. BPMs are allowed to rise for the shimmering warmth of In Exile and in the reverb soaked The Chariot. But these are the outliers. Across the collection, percussion drives without ever being a central force. Instead, the focus is the bewitching and brooding compositions. Take the drugged low slung groove of The Talisman of Algol or the loose modulations of Le Sagittaire, here the listener is brought into the heart of the machines and the musician. The curtain close, The Five Swords Of Venus In Aquarius gathers a spread of influences, bringing them together into one piece. Synth. Soundtrack. Strings. All culminate in this superb climax, a climax to an album that broaches the boundaries between terrifying and terrific.
While this may be the first release on Sheffield's Central Processing Unit from Global Goon, the one known to friends and family as Johnny Hawk brings a whole heap of experience to the Nanoclusters mini-LP. Hawk started dropping Global Goon records on the legendary Rephlex Records back in the 1990s. The project's subsequent releases have taken in imprints as esteemed as WeMe and Balkan. Factor in a whole host of other aliases which have delivered missives via the likes of Planet Mu, and you know even before you press play on this witty, wily record that you're dealing with a master at work here. The confidence with which Global Goon approaches Nanoclusters shines through in Hawk taking much of the mini-album at midtempo. Cuts like 'Khroxic Mould', 'Metallik' and 'Syntheseers' sound like Bochum Welt heading down a dark alleyway. The former in particular is a seasick lope, the tuned synths lurching around like sailors on deck in a storm as bass ebbs and flows underneath the mix. The influence of Kraftwerk comes through prominently at times here, particularly in the way 'Calcula' and 'Digit Six' play pensive, slightly sombre synth chords off some simple but effective forward motion in the drum programming. That is not to say that Nanoclusters is not full of invention, though. None of the productions are overly flash, but this approach allows the little details to shine through more clearly, from cleverly panned hi-hats to hissing synth counter-melodies which flit in and out of the mix. Enthralling and packed full of ear candy, they're further evidence that Nanoclusters is the work of an expert craftsman. While the pulse of Nanoclusters remains relatively steady throughout, it's still a rather lively record. Plenty of these tracks will get the dancefloor moving if deployed correctly - though whether they're heard at home or in the dance, it's the attention to detail which makes them stand out. 'Snapterisk' is as perfect an example of machine-funk as you're likely to find - the drum programming is razor-sharp but rubbery with bongos, the bass a lithe burble, and those wobbly stabs of keys that put a bit of wiggle in the beat? Delightful stuff. Elsewhere the ever-looping arpeggio of 'Metro Esc' has hints of Frankie Knuckles' house classic 'Your Love', though an array of interesting sonic nuggets - snippets of vocal, radar-like bloops, a gently insistent low-end pulse - soften the track's clubbier elements with a pillowy sheen. And Hawk throws us a curveball right at the end of Nanoclusters, tapping back into that old Rephlex sound for the fizzy, braindancing 'Metal Glass'. Global Goon doesn't need to show off on Nanoclusters - from brilliantly slick machine-funk to Kraftwerkian reveries, the CPU debutant lets the music do the talking here. It makes for a confident and vivacious mini-LP, one which wears its expertise lightly. RIYL: Cardopusher, Bochum Welt, Cygnus, D'Arcangelo
Juan Mendez aka Silent Servantis a figure in techno history that needs little introduction. As a member of the Sandwell District collective and the label's art director he collaborated on works that were responsible for a global focal shift in the genre as their label adapted and challenged the paradigm of minimal techno, taking influence from other sources such as dub, post-punk, and even classical minimalism. But Mendez's relationship with music goes back much further than these seminal releases. With In Memoriam, Silent Servant's latest release on Tresor Records, Mendez writes a deeply personal memoir of a 30-plus year career spent exploring and absorbing the shadowy side of music; a carefully crafted elegy to people, places, and times past and the lasting effect they have on the present. Across the four tracks, Mendez pays tribute to the earliest Detroit techno and electro, the Belgian EBM movement and the wave music that followed, the monumental dub techno sound from Berlin, and the harder, abrasive sound of the UK at the turn of the last millennium; exploring and referencing the genres that informed his later work. Each track name gives a hint to the timeframe he is revisiting and re-contextualising the E.P. repurposes the styles that exerted an influence on him. This E.P. represents a pure distillation of Mendez's memories whilst also cementing his place in the current and future sound of 21st century techno; aware of where we came from but focusedon where we are heading.
Raw, dark and faster sound, from the techno to the electro, having touches of rave, industrial and 909 machine. The protagonist of this is a distorted wicked synth. ESP Un sonido crudo, rapido, del techno al electro, entrelazando lo rave, lo industrial, la 909 machine y un synth distorosionado como protagonista
Melatron, an English artist hailing from the punk era, delivers his gritty electro vocals with a distinctive edge. This remix perfectly encapsulates the electro sound of TAG & WANDRACH, with the vocals adding the finishing touch. As this is an electro EP, you can expect more tracks to complete the release."

Five years on from the label's debut release, Bristol (UK) based Innate mainstays Gilbert and Owain K step into the limelight with their first split 12'. Buoyed by the rip-roaring success of recent solo outings on 030303 and M>O>S Recordings. Gilbert offers a perfect summary of his trademark sound full of star-gazing sci-fi synths, immersive textures, glassy-eyed melodics and timeless grooves. First doffing a cap to one of his major influences, Leeds legends LFO on 'Low Flying Objects' - you're met with booming acid bass, intergalactic electronics, dreamy pads and jacking drums. When the breakdown comes, it's a thing of rare beauty. Flipping the script on 'Unknown Entities', he wraps shuffling drums and butter-smooth bass in celestial chords, yearning synths and the bubbliest of leads with serious emotional punch. Owain K offers two more sublime slabs of head-in-the-clouds dancefloor futurism. Taking us to 'Corona Borealis', a small constellation a billion light years away, he combines the dreamiest of ambient chords with crispy electro drums, a deliciously raw bassline inspired by bleep techno's most celebrated tune, and melodies that twinkle like distant stars. Accompanied by 'New Horizons', a lusciously enveloping, sun-splashed deep house workout that provides a suitably tactile and warming end to another fine collection of high-grade cuts.

Íslenskur turbonutter, Volruptus, contorts your expectations for the third and final 12" on International Chrome in 2023, basssalína yeee, reciprocating 2021's huge collaboration with Jensen Interceptor on the former's Sweaty Records imprint. Endlessly inventive, the five tracks on the EP stretch and warp the concept of electro and bass music into new dimensions by adding just the right amount of odd, whether in the form of spaced out filters, unexpected pauses, or non-repetition. From the space shanty of Ibex (which unsurprisingly for a track at 160bpm slaps just as hard when slowwwwwed riiiiiiight dowwwn) to the slightly more traditional hardcore of Brain Computer Interface, Volruptus wrings new sounds out of the traditional warp and weft whilst never forsaking the dancefloor.
Your dog is your soulmate. His love for you is pure, innocent and unconditional. He always has time for you. He never gets tired of waiting for you. He teaches you how to live a simple, happy life. His company heals your problems. He blesses you with the best days of his life. But his existence is too short. The day he leaves you is the worst of your life. Your heart is cracked. Some time ago Tigre left this existence. A deep wound was formed in Roi's heart. Some feelings only can be expressed through art. Heavenly melodies, syncopated rhythms, avantgarde electro: with this moving and intimate EP, Roi transmits his love for his soulmate and creates an eternal bond between the two of them. A-side (pain and sorrow) and B-side (gratitude) connect the dots of Tigre's picture, who comes back through his soulmate's music. And Roi's wound can heal, because love and music go hand in hand. Close your eyes, pay full attention and connect with Tigre's soul. You will hear his steps getting close to you

French producer December returns to Tresor with An Accident In Favor Of Human Life, the second part of his Transform project, which continues the exploration of themes such as hybridisation and the boundaries of the self that were undertaken in June 2023's What Remains of Us. Transform Part 2 finds December increasing the intensity of his output as the Industrial and electro influences meet a more melodic and emotional approach to the darker tone of part 1. His musical crucible coming to the fore by adding a punching tungsten toughness to the beats, welded and riveted to myriad other sources including post punk, ambient, and musique concrète. The product of this is a collection of juddering and staccato pieces that call to mind steampunk as much as the glittering sci-fi most often invoked by electronic works. As per the first instalment, the cover art of In Favor Of Human Life continues the ongoing creative partnership between December and visual artist Marie Quéau whose photograph appears to show a human face that straddles the boundary between the familiar and unsettling. When Parts 1 & 2 are listened to consecutively, as a complete work, elements in one half reverberate into the other revealing a refined pattern and a landmark work by an artist coming to a new peak of creative power.

After the successful launch of Martin Merz's third LP, Vordergrundmusik now presents the successor release. Planet Henri is revisited by the likes of Legowelt, VRIL, and the label's head Michael Schreiber. Legowelt's old-school approach enhances the already present retro touch of "A Long Way Home", with a highly recognizable underlying acid bassline that we all came to love. Michael Schreiber retains the edgy contour of "Albedo", but prepares the track for a gloomy clubroom in two different versions. Finally, VRIL, a regular performer at Berlin's most prolific nightclubs and releases at Ostgut Ton and Fabric Records, absorbs the dark synth pads and builds a new drumatic structure around the original.
Infinite Pleasure has a knack for unearthing gems, but this time they've struck pure sonic gold with Ramu's "Imagined Worlds." This EP dives deep into a cosmos where breakbeats and acid harmonize in an intricate ballet. While Ramu has navigated the musical spectrum with the precision of a cartographer drafting uncharted lands—previously setting his flag on the esteemed soils of Shall Not Fade—this new offering explores territories uniquely his own. The four tracks serve as distinct coordinates on an auditory map that eschews cliché, favoring a labyrinthine complexity that keeps both the cerebrum and the dance floor engaged. With this release, the term 'well-produced' is an understatement; it's Ramu's brand of production wizardry that elevates this EP into a genre-defying manifesto. In the perennial quest for auditory Nirvana, Infinite Pleasure has consistently raised the stakes, and "Imagined Worlds" fortifies their place in the scene of underground electronix. Press play and prepare for a journey where familiar landscapes morph into a kaleidoscopic phantasmagoria, daring listeners to step into a new realm of musical experience. So go ahead, dip your toes into these "Imagined Worlds," and you'll soon find yourself submerged in pools of, quite appropriately, infinite pleasure.

DJ 3000 marks a decade of musical passion and artistic evolution with Meze, his fifth full-lengthon the mighty Motech label and one that draws on his rich Albanian heritage. DJ 3000, born Franki Juncaj but given his famous alias by the legendary "Mad" Mike Banks of Underground Resistance, has always been closely connected to the music of Detroit. He has shown that over a rich career that has served up plenty of full-lengths and essential 12"s mostly on his own Motech. He has long since been a core part of the underground and has helped to define the modern techno sound with his music. Now he innovates once more as he draws on his family's roots for this new album. They hail from Montenegro but made their way to the United States and settled in Hamtramck, Michigan. That duality of culture is intricately woven into his new album where traditional Balkan instruments sit next to his unique synth craft and grasp of electronic rhythms as Meze ventures into uncharted territory. It finds DJ 3000 boldly exploring sound, placing his Albanian heritage at the forefront of his creative expression. Much like how food serves as the universal "glue" that binds life together, 'Meze' binds together culture, music, and family. It's a story that transcends mere heritage; it's about the rich tapestry of life itself. "Meze felt like an organic process, a natural outpouring of creativity that couldn't be contained," he says. As such this album isn't just a collection of songs, it's a sonic expression of inner self, a reflection of where he's been and where he's heading. It's meant for anyone who craves authenticity and connection in music. 'Meze' acts as a bridge, uniting people from diverse backgrounds through its harmonious notes. The album's title track transcends genre, it's an artistic representation of the heart-pounding communal experience of a party, akin to the vibrancy of sharing a meal. 'Humble Quest' delves into Detroit's musical roots, while 'Snake Eyes' boldly explores uncharted electro territories, showcasing Franki's mastery across various electronic dance music genres. The tracks 'Pite' and 'Red & Black' shine brilliantly, infusing the album with the richness of Albanian culture and its national colors. 'Kafe' and 'Ishalla' revisit profound musical chords, offering a nod to Detroit legends and their enduring influence. Also embedded within the narrative of 'Meze' is 'Oloman Cafe,' an homage to his family's migration and a testament to the power of music to evoke cherished memories. Meze boasts 20 distinct tracks, each with its own unique flavour. It is DJ 3000's most complete and personal project to date and the culmination of a profound musical journey that invites all to partake in a celebration of different musical cultures.

Waajeed's 2022 long player, Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz, was an aural love letter to his hometown of Detroit; an amalgam of the city's history, coalescing the personal, political and, of course, musical past. From the Motown soul assembly line to J Dilla's musically dense Hip-Hop to The Stooges' proto-Punk to the birth of Techno, the music of the Motor City has spread across the globe inspiring countless artists who in turn went on to create their own forms and genres. Emulating this movement and transmutation, the Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz remixes 12" sees artists from three continents repurpose elements from across the LP, transforming them into productions stamped with their own trademark styles whilst retaining the spirit of each original: the UK's Mark Broom loops sections of Right Now while speeding up the BPM for a classic UK-style techno remix; Ghana-born Yazzus takes on The Ballad of Robert O'Bryant adding a surprising number of twists and turns for a five-and-a-half-minute piece; Australians Jensen Interceptor and Assembler Code close the 12" out with their take on the album's title and opening track neatly closing the loop, bringing us full circle to the start of the LP. The release of Memoirsremixes add another facet to the immensely heartfelt tribute to Detroit from one of its most talented citizens and a true milestone in the Tresor catalogue.
Ian O'Donovan is an alchemist, transforming emotions to fire. From his driving tech to electro to avant-garde progressive tracks, Ian's music always plays on the listener's feelings while bewildering the dancing feet. His use of melody and uplifting chord structures is so polished which gives birth to divine indigenous sensations, making him a perfect fit for our Elektronik Zoo. That being said, we couldn't miss the chance to host him and his new EP ''Electroviolet''.

Three small bones within the inner ear operate to transmit periodic air pressure changes. A passive stimulus-response mechanism, Mechanoreceptor traverses amongst multiple dimensions, synthesising the vast array of phenomena. While input is multi-sensory, the auditory instantiations constitute the output encoded by Mechanoreceptor. Spectral Decomposition recounts various entities/observations from the Aviary upon delicate analysis of the spectral properties that compose such observations - here, oceans, gemstones, and the great Electrophorus Electricus (otherwise known as the Electric Eel). A peer-reviewed EP, co-authors Jadzia and Go Nuclear supply their unique input to round off the EP.
Continuing with the Content series of EP's, DEFSET ploughs ahead with 4 club ready, explosive, original pieces. Exploring dancehall rhythms woven in with hardcore influenced breaks, punctuated with pounding distorted 808's, shuddering subs and sprinkled with trademark modular sound design. Unlike Content#01, this second visit moves away from acid house and techno and into the arena of broken beats and searing electro. Take Me utilises crystalline synth lines and hypnotic vocal chops to give the heavy electro groove depth and texture. 911 is a wonky, 5 in the morning, back room banger, with the most satisfying of drops. Broken Nails features piercing chord stabs and blistering breaks to build the energy, whilst Over Basel see's DEFSET use garage influences to build a dark, brooding, shuffling groove with a heavy percussive element and undulating subs. Hodge puts the icing on the cake with a stellar remix of Take Me, giving a 4/4 flavour to DEFSET's electro original. Clearly crafted to move a dancefloor, Hodge, as usual, manages to build energy and retain it in a refined and intelligent way.
Poly Chain aka. Sasha Zakrevska presents a blistering set of cold, radical and introspective electro tracks on one of her most entrancing records to date. Weaving influences from a wide palette of styles across electro, IDM, techno, trance, breaks and experimental sounds, the Ukranian composer and DJ builds stories and shapes patterns seemingly from another dimension, yet clearly close to heart. Undoubtedly a commentary on experienced hardship, strong willed hope, unjust conflict and most importantly the power of expression through music, SMART-155 is a testament to possibilities and a reminder of the importance of unity.
From the straight-edge allure of 'Dime' to the enigmatic charm of 'Stranger' and the jazzy sophistication of the title track, ending with the deep electro funk tune 'Easy Virtue,' Lok44's 'Late Reaction' is a captivating exploration of divergent forms of electric sweat music. Argentinian producers Oscean return to Tresor with Chronium Radiance, their longest release so far, in which the duo continue the evolution of their sound, coalescing the elemental ideas explored in their first two releases and yielding sublime results. This landmark release will no doubt be seen as the point at which Oscean crystalised a trademark sound, balancing complex percussive rhythms with pulsing and cadenced music in which a universe of often oxymoronic ideas can be found, melded together with a deft touch to create a blissful sonic whole. There is a sense of space and airiness to side A of the record as synth parts drift across the more solid-feeling landscape of the basslines and percussion: Opening track ChronoRebel is a propulsive trance induction that brings forth cinematic images of billowing clouds. This nebulous quality is continued on Neon Harmonies where the highly syncopated drum track weaves through a haze of colourful synths that while lower tempo than the previous track somehow has an energy of a faster piece. The flip side has a denser, darker quality to it beginning with Blaster Imploder, a deep and funky track that continues the convention-defying theme by being powerful and frenetic whilst also having a soft and exultant sheen. This is followed by Echoes of Chaos which closes out the 12" with a dynamic beat and spacious, sweeping synths that feel as though we are passing through the atmosphere heading towards some distant nebula. Alongside the tracks on the vinyl release, three digital tracks expand on the universe Oscean have built with a truly ecstatic love theme, a retelling of Neon Harmonies that unveils a river of dub, and a low tempo, drifting yet no-less affecting piece acting as the closing titles to our voyage to this Osceanic world.

Dropped Balls is the debut 12” vinyl release for Galway’s Belacqua. After previous releases on Unscene Music and Wherethetimegoes, Dropped Balls sees the Galweigan channelling his inner Sound Hack and travelling back in time to early 80’s NYC for a riotous collage of off kilter sampling, propellent drums, weeping acid and a general air of barely-controlled chaos. Gunnish kicks things off with jagged piano riffs before charging full steam ahead into the wall of a dank basement in the Meatpacking District before Davish jumps into life with its supercharged, rolling drums. The A-side then slowly but surely descends into the washes of distorted synths and booming kicks of Youngish On the flipside Marshall Applewhite (Yo Sucka! Detroit) drowns the stuttering funk of Gunnish in his trademark sludged out techno before the 12” takes a turn to the emotive with the transcending, slo-mo acid of release closer, Tennish.

Reptant on the other side treating the subtile original of My Boom with his signature deep and pervasive production style. The result of those young geniuses coming together again is a thrilling spectacle for any lover of contemporary electro sound.

Eddie Symons' fine recent run for Central Processing Unit continues. The NULLPTR mastermind makes it four releases on the Sheffield label in five years with Recursor, a six-track EP which balances precision-engineered machine-funk grooves with an overarching aura of gracefulness. Recursor finds its lane from the opening title-track. On the quicksilver 'Recursor' we get Drexciyan punch, a needlegun bassline and staccato arps offset by eerie washes of synths. There's a tension between the two elements of the track, and this yin-yang combination means that' Recursor' will work equally well for both the rave's darkest corners and also the euphoria of a sunrise set. After the title-track begins the record at breakneck speed, 'Pulsar' puts proceedings into cruise control. There's still enough punch in the drum programming to ensure that 'Pulsar' will deliver in the dance, but this mid-paced tune is dominated by its warping bassline and keening keys, all of which comes together for a pretty and strangely wistful number. 'Pulsar's energy persists into following cut 'Phase Function, though there's a twitchiness to the bassline here which gives this track a nervier, more neurotic feel. As well as the golden age of Detroit electro, you're also looking at Silicon Scally and Annie Hall as ballpark references, though there's a winning idiosyncrasy to the production here which is all NULLPTR's own. The groove which kicks off the second half of Recursor is one of the most focussed on the whole EP - 'Seil' has a bassline which moves with the intent of a heat-seeking missile. When combined with the distant snap of 808s and twinkling arps, the whole thing very much maintains the shadowy feeling of 'Phase Function', and it's an energy that Recursor rides into 'Stone Tape'. 'Stone Tape' boasts another stellar bassline, but rather than the low-end barrelling forward intensely as it does on 'Seil' the bass here skips all around the mix, pleasingly erratic and playful. 'Portal' is an apt title for Recuror's sixth and final track. Indeed, the whole vibe of 'Portal' makes it a perfect closer for this EP of detailed electro jams. This tune really does feel like a portal being opened, the bass and drums busying themselves on the floor while chemtrails of synth in the upper-end of the mix intimate something enticing beyond the threshold. Sparky yet sleek, Recursor is the latest fine machine-funk collection from NULLPTR. RIYL: Annie Hall, Silicon Scally, Legowelt

Grow's Elektrotropolis ep is a 4 track dystopian electro voyage featuring 4 very different sonic journeys. Elektrotropolis is a high energy almost Rotheresque banger with cold vocals that will send the dancefloor into a frenzy. Interdimensional Telepathy is a very rare format for Grow being it contains no vocals of any kind as well as no verbal samples. 100%% instrumental vibey journey designed to put the body in a euphoric state of tranquility and flowing movement. Secret machines is a more traditional Grow outing featuring cerebral vocal work as well as bassy intricate drum patterns. And finally a wild journey into the realm of Biological Mycelial Network that will take you on trip through the universe guided by magical audio spores that implant themselves in your cerebral cortex and guide you on your way to enlightenment. Enjoy the tunes!
In April 1990, deep in the heart of Brooklyn, DJ legend and techno visionary Frankie Bones launched the Groove Records store. From this unassuming location, the techno scene of New York City was born. Promptly after opening its doors, Adam X joined his older brother and the duo began their mission to create a US techno movement. Groove Records focused solely on selling Techno music from around the globe while marketing its sound directly to the people by hosting many illegal rave events which came to be known as the techno underground. Local artists were given a platform for their early productions through the launch of Brooklyn Groove Productions a label that who would help push the New York sound globally. It became the place for finding the newest and freshest music and quickly became a cultural institution. Simultaneously, and as a result an immensely diverse techno scene would emerge and thrive up and down the East Coast of America. " Fast forward to 1994. The unique sounds of these artists along with the productions from Adam X and Frankie would soon cement Sonic Groove into electronic world culture as both a label and store. For the next decade, the store would sell thousands upon thousands of hot techno titles on vinyl. After 30 years of pushing unrelenting underground techno, Sonic Groove has decided to dig deep into it's DAT (Digital Audio Tape) archives and craft a compilation of it's most precious gems from its 90s roots. Fresh new mastering for the present day market is provided by Dietrich Schoenemann and Abe Duque. Documented proof that techno is timeless music for the eon's

Dutch electro producer Lloyd Stellar brings his magic touch to Exploited Club on two fierece tracks following on from acclaimed releases on esteemed imprints ranging from 20/20 Vision to Avoidant, BroknToys and Science Cult. 'Digital Hallucinations' takes a haunted, Burial-esque pitched-down vocal sample, drenched in reverb, and floats it over a punishing, pacey breakbeat rhythm. Bruising bass relentlessly pummels as bleepy rhythms pulse, delay and filter around the mechanical rhythms. The tripped town textures in the higher registers cut against the hard underbeat to make both your head and your body spin. 'Hibernating Machines' journeys further into the deep with almost tribal bass sweltering underneath mystical pad sound and modulating drones. The percussion chatters, convulsing in response to those earth-shattering sub waves, and a dizzying synth lie rises from the depths to pull you further into the hypnotic heart of this spacious track.
Kicking off with 'Mute Mode', which channels deep house and acid melodics, laced over chunky breaks and a warm analog bass. 'Up Here (In The Head)' follows up with another 303 workout, layered with infectious bass hooks and effected synth trills. On the flip side, 'System Addict' ups the BPM's and flexes a more upfront electro groove, with beefy drums, gnarly stabs and a twisted, resonant bassline. Whilst 'Worn Out Version' provides a more mellow and alternative vibe to close out the EP, with squelchy modular synth riffs and lush minor chords.
Bass Daddy aka Hermeth releases his long awaited debut EP on Dionysian Mysteries with AVALON and Buzz Kill on remix duties. With a production style that is unmistakable, the Geneva hometown hero and Brainwaves Wunderkind has truly etched out his own sound which has become definitive in the electro scene. Infusing breaks with huge ripping analog bass lines and catchy vocals lending to its head thrashing charisma. Hermeth's nonchalant zero fucks attitude is contagious and effective on the dance floor a true Dionysian Aesthetic. Dale Don's clever use of vocals to compliment the bass heavy track showcases Hermeths ability to make heavy electro track have a pop appeal. Do Ma Ting is relentless skull crushing high energy rave track with a bass line that sounds like a machine gun turret, which is complimented by its hilarious vodka drenched vocals and and catchy rap lyrics. Seoul based producer Avalon who has been turning up some sick music makes a really cool tripped out remix for Dale Don. Dionysian Mysteries head honcho Buzz Kill adds to the fury with his noisy acid rendition of Do Ma. Artwork by Furtive Mastering by Ben Pest

Umwelt knows his craft. From his no-nonsense acid-drenched electro assaults to his more thought-provoking works, the Frenchman can shred speakers as well as soothe souls. These two sides of the New Flesh boss sound combine as he returns to Shipwrec with the five tracks of "Collapsar". Worlds collide in the epic Galactic Empire. Beats are lashed with punishing acid rinses as a bold cinematic backdrop takes form. Collapsar maintains the grandeur, broad expansive chords stretching above a plain of tight percussion. A frigid stuttering synthline introduces Reflectivity, a line that breaks into a horizon searching melody punctuated by crisp rhythms and arcing keys. The breadth and depth achieved across the EP is staggering, Umwelt balancing dancefloor electro with introspection. This immersive quality comes to the fore in the sweeping soundtrack of Redemption Ark. That calm is cracked wide open with the frenetic finale. Day Zero incises from the outset, drums cutting into bulwark of bass before a barrage of keys attack. Exemplary from a master.

Next up on Co-Accused Records - No Static / Automatic label boss Ara-U is piloting the craft with his No Future EP. The Venezuelan Electro producer provides four analogue cuts accompanied by a Radioactive Man remix. It's a cosmic liftoff with the mind warping sonic sounds of 'Planet Destroy'. Radioactive Man's funk-fuelled remix has an infectious 303 bassline that takes the listener on a jackin 'journey. On the flip side 'Exit Now' moves into driving hypnotic synths with sizzling percussion throughout. 'No Future' dips the dancefloor into a twisting wormhole of intergalactic grooves. The EP closes with the dark dystopian synths and extraterrestrial layers of 'Its Only Lies Around Me'.
Carl Finlow keeps on keepin' on. Not only is Finlow one of the most respected names in electro, a producer who boasts a sprawling catalogue that takes in a wide variety of aliases, but he's also spent recent years establishing himself as a mainstay for Sheffield's Central Processing Unit label. Soft Robotics, the new EP from Finlow's Silicon Scally project, is the fifth Silicon Scally release in five years to boast one of CPU's instantly-recognisable black-and-white covers. The reason that Silicon Scally and CPU keep linking up is simple; they're a perfect fit for one another. Central Processing Unit has established itself as a haven for post-Drexciya producers since launching in 2012, and there are few artists better than Finlow at building on the Detroit group's sound. The union bears fruit once more on Soft Robotics, an EP of lithe machine-funk jams that will both do damage in the dance and also reward more concentrated home listening. Things begin at a steadier speed than one might expect. Rather than barrelling off with the kind of sinewy roller one associates with the CPU name, Soft Robotics' title-track takes things at mid-pace. The groove reveals itself without hurry, Silicon Scally adding or subtracting elements - twitchy modular loops, pensive pads, the occasional blurt of low-end - atop the chugging bass/drums groove. It's a track which wins you over with guile rather than force. As the name of subsequent cut 'Jitters' intimates, this one picks things up a little after 'Soft Robotics'. The tempo is higher here, the central beat more nervy. At their cores, though, 'Jitters' and 'Soft Robotics' are kindred spirits. Here, another slyly insistent bit of drum programming comes swirled up with all sorts of extraterrestrial tones, from little nuggets of melody supplied by the keys to electrifying synth stabs and percussive squelches. Things limber up further still on first B-side 'Spin Ratio'. The track's 808 kicks are punchier than those of the A-side jams, and there's a dizziness to the bass tone which gives 'Spin Ratio' an intriguingly off-kilter feel. Atop the booming beat we find ourselves hypnotised by cells of melody and harmony interlocking or moving apart - particularly the staccato module at the track's heart. Sure enough, 'Spin Ratio' is the Soft Robotics joint which cleaves closest to Drexciya, invoking other Detroit disciples like Jensen Interceptor in the process. After Soft Robotics picks up speed in the middle, closer 'Super Fluid Tones' brings us back to where we started. This track returns to the more measured delivery of the record's opener - there's a steady pulse to the drums, and once again Silicon Scally packs the mix with so many intriguing whizzes, bangs, blips and blurts that it's impossible not be won over by this tune's construction. 'Soft Robotics' and 'Super Fluid Tones' bookend Soft Robotics very nicely, and Silicon Scally's smart pacing gives the EP a lovely ebb and flow. The ever-excellent Carl Finlow drops a Silicon Scally release via Central Processing Unit for the fifth year running. Like its predecessors, Soft Robotics is an excellent and deftly-crafted collection of modern machine-funk. RIYL: Drexciya, Jensen Interceptor, Fleck E.S.C., The Advent
Den Haag's own Manta is something of a techno-conjuror, a sound scientist seeking to capture the atmosphere of some clandestine biomechanical laboratory. "Failure Parade" is an EP combining cold cybernetic architecture with genetic double-helixes twisted by a menacing aquatic aura. Through six tracks, Manta's songs are morphing and liminal, gliding between moods and taking us to new spaces in the sound.
