Chungo serves up two ice-cold club cuts on his own Dudbridge Garage International imprint. Hot on the tails of his recent two-tracker for Scuffed Recordings, Chungo keeps the pressure on with Basta and Quando; two slick and rhythmic slabs of off-kilter bass music, built for maximum dance floor potency.
Sheefy McFly , Etherpussy , Lola Damone , Bevlove , Tiptonaires , DJ Mobetta
Detroit producer Sheefy McFly delivers his first release outside the US on Amsterdam's Cape St. Francis label. The release features vocals from DJ MoBetta, Bevlove, Lola Damone, Tiptonaires and Etherpussy. Baddies Only is a love letter to the women of Detroit's underground. Thank you to every artist who brought their energy, their talent, and their story to this project. Bevlove - "You're Mine" Bev is without a doubt one of Detroit's best singers and performers. This track is a remix of one of her originals, and it's built up a real underground buzz over the years, from the parties in the city to online. If you know, you know. Tiptonaires - "Cute2Nite" Tiptonaires is a fierce, one-of-one creative: DJ, producer, and designer all in one. The energy she brings to the stage is something else entirely. We produced this one together, and it's become one of my favorite records to pull out during a set. Lola Damone - "Pretty World" Lola is a bonafide Detroit legend. Her stamp on this city goes back to the hood classic "50 N***** Deep," a record that still knocks to this day. "Pretty World" came from a completely different space: atmospheric, ethereal, and born out of pure fun in the studio. It's an honor to have her on this project. DJ Mobetta - "Young N Turnt" Mobetta is a DJ, producer, and artist who is fully in her bag right now. She's bringing a unique blend of Detroit Rap and Ghettotech that takes her sets to another level entirely. On "Young N Turnt," her vocals captured exactly what it looks like when the baddies own the dance floor. Had so much fun producing this one. Etherpussy - "Where the $ At?" This one came together after a party at my art studio with the Detroit duo Etherpussy. The vocals were recorded straight to my phone, and that's exactly what gives the track its edge: that raw, after-hours grit that you can't manufacture. Sometimes the best sessions are the unplanned ones. Baddies Only is a love letter to the women of Detroit's underground. Thank you to every artist who brought their energy, their talent, and their story to this project. Aside from producing, Sheefy runs the Ghettotechtopia party series in Detroit, has previously worked with Amp Fiddler for a release on Moodymann's Mahogani Records and has remixed and released for AUX88. As a visual artist, he creates colourful murals all over Detroit, inspired by the Motor City's musical history like the "Detroit Never Left" piece featured on the sleeve. credits
Azu Tiwaline & Cinna Peyghamy, Amotik, Quelza, and Alarico remix four tracks from Ben Klock and Fadi Mohems collaborative album Layer One. Released last year on the pairs label LAYER, each artist on the Layer One Remixes EP retains the weighty, low-end edge that shaped the album, while reinterpreting four tracks through a myriad of techno, IDM, bass, and experimental shades. Honouring the conceptual direction of Layer One, which delved into a post-human world and offered a serene reflection on a realm that continued to flourish in the absence of humanity, the Layer One Remixes EP echoes the same theme. The remaining human survivors on Earth signal a remembrance of their sensibilities, told through the powerful lyrics and vocals of grime MC Flowdan and interdisciplinary artist Coby Sey. Azu Tiwaline & Cinna Peyghamy open the EP with their remix of Our Sector featuring the commanding vocals of Flowdan. Fragmented bass-driven textures skitter across the sparse soundscape, culminating in a track primed for the weirder hours of the night. On Ultimately, Amotik delivers his take on the original featuring spoken word by Coby Sey, and whips up a rolling four-four number pierced with bleepy percussion. On the flip, Quelzas reinterpretation of Our Sector unfolds with zappy motifs and technoid flourishes, permeating the shadowy pads and spine-chilling harmonics that slink through the atmosphere. Alarico remixes Clean Slate, serving a potent techno track laced with equal parts restraint and release, enhanced by Coby Seys taut vocals. While the original album represented the more exploratory sides of Ben Klock and Fadi Mohem, the Layer One Remixes EP offers a further step into the void, led by five contemporary artists who are unafraid to delve into the murkiest corners of the dystopian world conjured up by Klock and Mohem.
After an amazing run with his latest EP on Hessle Audio Make It Better/ Restless Sleep Josi Devil is back with a 3 tracker on TSVI & Wallworks Nervous Horizon. Combining club functionality and cinematic sound design this EP leaves no stone unturned. No More has already conquered most dance floors around the UK and the world being played by the biggest names in the scene like Ben UFO, Joy O, Special Requests etc. Duinpan is a pounding garage banger with mind bending sound design. M.e.S the final track is a collaboration with label boss TSVI, and it definitely is the cherry on the cake incorporating both the signature Nervous Horizon sound and Josi Devils cold & slick production.
There is an undeniable cohesion in this release as thinking often involves effort and attention, while thoughts can be passive and fleeting such when our thoughts turn into thinking. which is how the two tracks formulated themselves. Thoughts takes a step outside the parameters of other Eye Dow releases as Ido melds the spacious 118 beats per minute tempo into a 808-loaded, drone soaked and drum focused workout with nods towards certain influential early uk bass music. Morphing textures into reverb and hi hats into melodies Thinkings draws influence from Thoughts initial ideas and lays them out over a 6 minute four on the floor sink hole hyper tuned for the turning point of any set.
