From his previous releases on Innervisions, we already knew that Ede carries a certain storytelling sensibility associated with the label. His new EP for Scorpios Music, Holdin´ On, condenses that instinct into a tight, two-track narrative. Track one, 'I Don't Wanna Leave', produced with Ivory, contains a world collapsing: a frantic end-of-the-road dance that remains sexy in the middle of heartbreak. Crashing drums point towards progressive emotional turmoil, while an alluring R&B vocal keeps calling from the past. The tension leaves you longing for a now-or-never moment with someone on the dancefloor. Track two, 'Love Every Day', produced with JAMIIE, picks up somewhere further down the line. Easy chords and a lightness of touch create the birdsong-feeling in the early days of new love. There's a rosy optimism here, but it never tips into sentimentality. Both work exceedingly well as standalone dance tracks, but the real reward comes from hearing them together. There's a compelling arc between the two: a lesson learned through lost love — "all the time we have, you know we won't be forever young" — followed by a renewed awareness, and gratitude, for what's here now: "celebrate the love we share, everyday."
