Having cooked up an absolute storm on Vol.6 of Hardcore Energy Introduces, it was only right that Shirley Temper returned to the label with a fully-fledged release. The Burnin Luv EP contains four of the finest cuts, darting purposefully from hardcore and jungle techno to DnB steppage. Opening title track Burnin Luv wastes no time setting the tone. Rattling breaks dance around an in-your-face four-to-the-floor kick, while pitched-up vox carry the message over dissonant stabs. Proper loved-up hardcore junglism on the surface, before a slightly grittier - but equally groovy - second half rolls in to keep things grounded. On Bang The Drum, it's booty bass meets jungle techno. Saturated kicks and rolling amens lay the foundations for a bassline that refuses to sit still, while a hypnotic vocal locks us in and keeps the pace. Playful and menacing in equal measure, this one's built to move the whole room as one. ACID, ACID, ACID! Track three turns things up a notch with an all-out 303-inspired assault, going full force on the technolicious hardcore madness. Beefy kicks, mentasm stabs and rolling drums - Shirley Temper's orders are clear and non-negotiable: 'Put your back into it'! Closing cut How's This For A Change does exactly what it says on the tin. A break-centric first half, heavy on the drums with a jungle-techno stab line, before a welcome left turn. What follows is a descent into mid-'90s drum & bass steppa territory - a proper switch-up that rounds the EP off in style.
