Dmitry Molosh , Forty Cats , Max Blücher

    Beatport Staff Picks

A Proton Music regular with a quintet of original EPs, Dmitry Molosh has been at the heart of the Progressive House scene for over 15 years with more than 700 production credits to his name. Now returning to the label, he delivers "Bird Flight" with remixes from two growing forces. With typical aplomb, "Bird flight" is full of trademark production maturity as a smooth rolling groove is joined by a deep club-friendly bassline sequence that filters into prominence at immaculately timed intervals. Melodic character appears courtesy of a floating riff that gathers momentum towards the breakdown. Reaching a powerful zenith in the second half, a huge oscillating bassline creates a dark energy before the lighter melodic elements and multi-textured pads provide a generous progressive kaleidoscope. Christina Gavrilova has become a force to be reckoned with since she burst onto the dance music scene in late-2018 with her Forty Cats persona, before a debut release a year later on Lane 8's This Never Happened label via the "Highway" EP. As a regular on the likes of Mango Alley, Monstercat and Balance Music, her own PURFECTION label is testament to her hard work, sonic vision and dedication to her craft. Making her Proton Music debut, the Forty Cats remix of "Bird Flight" is a powerful reimagining that takes the track on a darker more hypnotic journey. Opening with a seismic beat and cavernous sub-bass groove, the main riff makes a smoothly filtered entrance before evolving more fully at the breakdown with a cast of new melodic characters to the fore. Hitting its stride once more in the third movement, the earlier low-end vibe and rhythmic intensity are joined with melodic flourish in a dramatic and powerful remix. An accomplished musician as pianist, saxophonist and with classical training under his belt, Max Blücher is another Proton Music debutant. First discovering the world of electronic music through the work of Paul Kalkbrenner, the Berlin-based artist has seen a clutch of high-profile releases find their way on to the PNEUMA and Sekora imprints. Taking a typically unique and emotionally powerful approach, the Max Blücher remix captures the melodic themes present in the original and transforms them into new sonic shapes and patterns with a deep groove and complementary piano phrase that changes the feel of the track with emotional depth, particularly at the breakdown. A deep and rolling rhythmic groove adds a late-night club feel and the chorus of effects and stereo-panned sonic palette create a vibrant and dynamic reworking. As Dmitry Molosh rises to new heights with the magnificent "Bird Flight", remixes from Forty Cats and Max Blücher create an EP that soars into the stratosphere.
