'Truly a hybrid artist - Greek producer and SHIFT label head George Adi revels in exploring the middle territory between DJing and production. Throughout his work, he allows each discipline to inform the other in the creation of bright, kinectic music that carries just as much clout in the studio as it does on discerning dance floors...case and point - his latest offering for Simina Grigoriu's ever-reliable Kuukou Records. 'Unite' kicks us off with a highly operable tool. Built with a DJ-coded arrangement, the track creeps forwards like a panther pursuing prey. Thick, muscular drums land hard and heavy while menacing atmospherics sweep across the top of the frequency range. All the while, a caustic 303 boils in the belly of the track and what comes together is the realisation of Adi's specific intention to galvanise an acid roller making it fit for purpose in a warehouse rave. 'Cultural' follows up with some steely, Central-European sonics. A highly focused groove moves in concentric circles as it broadens its blast radius slowly but surely. Another jagged acid line subtly churns while tension steadily ladders before a neon synth oozes out across the breakdown. The drums gallop back in and the floor is sparked awake, solidifying a pair of fail-safe bombs that are intentionally easy to use and devastatingly effective on the floor.'
