"chasing highs" is the fastest and most dynamic chapter in David Bay's current run of singles on Zissou Records - a peak-time indie club track with the soul and craft of something that goes beyond nightlife. The track takes on a feeling everyone knows but rarely admits to: that relentless loop of chasing something that keeps pulling you back to zero. The more you push, the tighter the grip. The lyrics don't sugarcoat it - we end up just the same, again and again - but the music tells a different story. Falsetto vocals, sharp and funky guitars, a percussion section that doesn't let up for a second, and retro soul brass that feels lifted straight out of a 70s studio session. The result is a record that sounds like pure liberation, even when the words say otherwise. Chasing Highs is out October 9th on Zissou Records.
