A first preview of a forthcoming album, Mekkanikka reaches back to pull something forward. "We Called It Techno" is full-on psy at its core - relentless, driving, built for peak time - but laced with the kind of old-skool Goa madness that shaped the genre before anyone had a name for it: squelching synth lines, hypnotic loops, a real sense of ritual. A knowing nod to the roots of the psychedelic trance scene.
