Watergate Records celebrates 10 years of its quality-obsessed imprint with a special 50 track anthology of the team's favourite records. Over the last decade, the imprint has set the gold standard for captivating electronic music from across the house and techno spectrum, successfully mirroring the club's on-point booking policy. It's not a case of who's played at the Berlin's institution, but rather who hasn't, and the label arm follows suit, gifting the scene some of its most memorable cuts since its inception in 2008. There are seven sumptuous works from resident Matthias Meyer, led by 'Hope' and 'Love Letters from Sicily', his collaborations with Ryan Davis, while a timeless Sasha gem 'Trigonometry' takes us back to the Welshman's glorious contribution in 2017. Watergate favourites Adana Twins deliver four shimmering tracks highlighted by their rework of Patrice Bäumel's 'Roar' and 'Relentless' with WhomadeWho's Jeppe Kjellberg. Henrik Schwarz's time-honoured classic 'Take Words in Return' appears on the compilation three times, with the original rubbing shoulders with reworks from Jimi Jules and C2. Carl Craig's famous moniker features again with his stunning remix of La Fleur's 'Arms Around', while Kenny Larkin's remix of the Swede's 'Nightflow' is an unmissable inclusion. King Kerri Chandler, one of house music's most enduring icons, brings heat with 'Mama' feat. Jerome Sydenham and 'Checkmate', while 'Amanacer', Solomun's beguiling track from 2017 makes an essential addition. DYSTORTION Extrawelts Latest and Longest-Brewing Album Lands This December on Cocoon In this beautiful world marked by rising chaos, sometimes the simplest way to escape its troubles is through sonic relief. Germanys renowned electronic duo Extrawelt will offer exactly that with their 5th full-length album, DYSTORTION, via Cocoon Recordings this December. For over two decades, the humble duo behind Extrawelt, who shy away from making music for clicks, have been a steadfast presence in electronic music. Known as serious studio and tour-focused artists who craft timepiece albums, each a work of enduring craft, that go on to create atmospheric, out-of-the-box live acts, theyve been shaping and redefining electronica since their first release. DYSTORTION is their most diverse and evocative album to date. Imagined over six years and shaped by a world in flux through COVID, political upheavals, social media, and AI, it reflects the contrasts and twists weve all felt while offering surges of serenity and hope. From brooding tension to playful relief, it moves through different states in an evolved Extrawelt manner. The albums opening credit, Grand Départ, as if a cinematic prelude, invites us into a world of creeping bass, an explicitly Extrawelt sound thats synonymous with the anti-genre genre they work within. Following the success of their eEarl EP on Switzerlands Hive Records, Berlin-based House staple Oliver $ reunites with Swiss Jazz House aficionado Jimi Jules to bring their anticipated debut release on Defected. ePushing On opens with an infectious percussive medley composed of tropical triangles and melodious 808-like cowbells. With the gradual introduction of the moody, Frankie Knuckles inspired, bass line and tailing piano chords, the track slowly transforms into an energetic homage to classic Chicago House. Quick to take centre stage the track also features dusky vocal samples from Quantic Soul Orchestra, merging effortlessly with the wispy cymbal crashes, the songs title and central lyrical theme, iPushing Oni, falls and confidently rises to drive the track to its spirited climax.
