Feon (Optimo Music/Invisible Inc) may be better known for his ability to produce psychedelic dancefloor bombs than producing ambient music, but Darkness Within Darkness is as surprising a departure sonically as it is quintessentially Feon. Light, dark and profoundly spiritual the music weaves together threads of ambient, jazz, folk, post-rock and experimental to create a conceptual masterpiece that on one hand explores themes of death and pain, and in the other offers a luminous transcendence and acceptance of mortality on the other. Through seven skilfully arranged compositions, often accompanied by song or spoken word, we are transported to a realm where these seemingly conflicting feelings become profoundly harmonious.
