Oi! You! Grab ya blue-lensed wraparounds and look pensive - Constrict has blessed the label with the Shellcode EP. Trust us when we say this is PhD-level intelligent junglism. How Do I Look opens with glitching ethereal pads and distant plucks, providing an airy backdrop for steppy breaks and a bouncing 808 bassline. Elevated by ambient vocal riffs, the second half unfolds into a collision of worlds - spacious horns drifting across an acidic 303 line. It's a nod to that golden-age atmospheric blueprint, reimagined with new-age clarity and depth. On C4$H BR4NDYCOOT, Constrict keeps the skies open. Dewy-fresh pads and elegantly arranged strings float above deep-grooving double basses and warm sines, while uplifting vocals bring a sense of optimism that feels distinctly 1994. There's a trace of that Aquasky-era glow; it's musical, fluid and effortlessly rolling. Having taken us above the clouds, it was only a matter of time before blue skies turned stormy grey. Femtocell pivots into darker territory, blending tearout amens with dissonant vox and growling reese lines. While the mood tightens and tension builds, the breakwork remains precise and purposeful. Shellcode stands as the EP's centrepiece. A real standout track with pure steppage on the drums, warbling basslines weaving beneath surging pads and a proper stick-in-ya-head vocal melody. Deep, dark amen rinse-outs ground it firmly in the dance. If this one doesn't move the crowd, check their pulses. Closing the EP, Desert Cruising Gizmo feels like the perfect summation. Nostalgic yet forward-facing, its reversed vocal chops and beautifully placed melodic elements glide into tight breaks and heavier drums, carrying emotional weight without ever feeling cluttered.
