This song was created from a very specific memory. I played a festival last summer and it was one of those rare moments where everything felt perfect the weather, the crowd, the energy, the music. I was there with someone special, and that weekend felt unreal, almost like time slowed down. House and nostalgic R&B were playing in the background, and I remember feeling completely present. That's where I fell in love. The inspiration came from wanting to freeze that exact feeling the warmth, the freedom, the romance of a summer night that feels endless. But what really pushed me to write it was the contrast. The day after the festival, everything shifted in a negative way. The magic faded fast, and reality hit hard. So this track lives between those two emotions: euphoria and collapse. It captures the beauty of a perfect moment and the bitterness of watching it fall apart. It's nostalgic, emotional, but with an underlying tension like a memory that still feels warm, even though you know how it ended.
Corrupted Authority sees Brendon Moeller return to his trademark dub framework -- deep spatial pressure, submerged rhythm architecture, and finely eroded textures. Heavy low-end anchors the EP while delays bleed into negative space, revealing the tension between precision and collapse. From the corroded pulse of Signal Rot to the surgical minimalism of Instigator, the EP explores intrusion, decay, and subtle disruption within rigid systems. It's restrained yet ominous -- a study in tension, space, and the power of repetition.
Shook Hands marks a shift in their sound as they offer up a mutant, wide-angled twist on 140. The reference points are splattered across the high-impact sound board, with shards of wonky techno, dirty south trap, jungle, garage, dancehall and more audible in the mix. It's everything and none of those things all at once - hyphy rave gear to bring out maximal dance floor response.
Dread or Dead return with a deep and ceremonial offering from Belgian bass alchemist Skimir, formerly known as Datra. Drawing heavily on eastern influences, the title tune 'Sonum' sees Skimir channelling ritualistic rhythms, hypnotic scales and ancient atmospheres into a thoroughly modern slab of low-end pressure. The EP unfolds with originals 'Alright' and 'Ghostly Chat' displaying winding, serpentine melodies woven through dense layers of percussion, setting a mystic and foreboding tone. 'Losing Duel' features the talents of the HNI Crew who add their skills to Skimir's trademark weighty bass design and intricate drum work. The release is rounded out by a pacy and rhythmic remix of the title track, and features Mystic State's signature percussive mastery and smooth bass tones. Keep it Dread.
Memory Play returns to Control Freak with 'We Used to Speak the Same Language' - a 4 track collection of primal techno. Lean, destructive, and emotionally exposed, the EP represents an evolution that has developed through a series of captivating and uncompromising live sets. Fusing psychedelic techno and experimental sound design, these tracks channel a cathartic energy that cements his vision of the dancefloor as a space for collective ritual, release, and confrontation. It is also a pleasure to welcome Mor Elian and Gramrcy to Control Freak - repurposing the title track for the transition from peak time to early hours with their marching, modern-minimal take.
