As another year comes into focus, Choice Cuts - Best of 2025 gathers the moments, experiments, and unexpected left turns that shaped Fresh Meat Records across the past twelve months. This compilation highlights twenty tracks that defined our sound this year, capturing both the intensity of the dancefloor and the quieter subtleties of artists exploring their own boundaries. 2025 saw a widening circle of voices stepping into the catalog. Harp Lewis returned with his off-kilter disco deepness, Geto Mark continued to refine his raw Chicago energy, and CasaNoah pushed his beautifully strange UKG-tinged experiments into even bolder territory. Petty Davis gave us a new jacking anthem. Jevon Jackson delivered a pair of timeless DJ tools made for clubs and meditation alike. And DJ Mes reminded everyone why he remains one of the most consistent mood-setters in modern house. This year also strengthened the connective tissue of the label. Long-running collaborators like Black Sjuan, Chris Udoh, Devastating Dennis, and King Cosmic brought some of their most distinctive work yet, tracks built from dense percussion, hypnotic atmospheres, and voices that carry the weight of House Music history. Justin Aulis Long and J-Dub continued to stretch the Strange universe in new directions, while Da Outlawz revived a nearly forgotten jack track and flipped it into a celebration of Chicago heritage. Mazi & Duriez resurfaced with a suite of remixes that underscored how adaptable and durable their work continues to be decades into their partnership. And Sean Smith stepped onto the label with the kind of deep, intentional dancefloor architecture that comes from a lifetime behind the decks. Choice Cuts - Best of 2025 is a reflection of the labels ongoing story, a place where seasoned voices stand alongside new ones, where tradition and experimentation feed each other, and where dance music remains a living, breathing language spoken across generations. These tracks sketch out where weve been this year, but they also hint at where were heading. Copyright Control 2025 Fresh Meat Records
DJ Mes returns to Fresh Meat Records for a third time with a two-tracker that lands exactly where it should: in the body, not the head. Jason Sutton has been working this corner of the dancefloor since the mid-nineties, and Do It for Jack wears that history without belaboring it. The original is built around a rolling, syncopated kick and the kind of bass that you feel before you consciously hear it. Strings and keys move through the arrangement like weather, present, then gone, then back again. Woven through it is a spoken voice recalling a time when the parties drew everyone in, whites, blacks, Puerto Ricans, gays, everybody, and the rooms were united by nothing more complicated than a funky good time. It's a reminder of where this music came from and what it was for. The track builds toward that memory, and when the voice returns at the peak to say "This is for you, Jack," it lands less like a dedication than a quiet act of gratitude, to a person, a place, or maybe just a feeling that's worth holding onto. The Randall Dean Rework of Wyld Lyf offers a different angle on the same terrain. Dean, who has released two singles for the label as Petty Davis, steps out here under his own name for the first time, and the remix reflects a producer with clear convictions. He leans into the original's disco and funk instincts and adds a layer of tension to the groove, something slightly compressed and coiled, while keeping the warmth intact. The rework feels like a late-night conversation between two people who already understand each other. Together the two tracks make a case for jackin' house as a tradition that rewards patience and repetition over novelty. Neither track is trying to surprise you. They're after something steadier than that. Music written, produced, mixed and arranged by Jason Sutton. Wlyd Lyf remix by Randall Dean. Mastering and visual design by Maziar Namvar. 2026 Fresh Meat Records
