A long term friend of the family and defining voice for melodic electronic music returns to Radikon for catalogue no. 79. The legend Coeus is back in the house! Right from the start a heavy hitting kick plus off bass pattern lays the foundation for the uncompromised territory that lies ahead. 'Paramount' offers a wild ride through various chainsaw like lead cuts smashed over hypnotic robotic voice fragments. At the top of the ascent awaits a pittoresque view over breathtaking hook arcs that stretch out wide behind the dance-floor's horizon. The 'Odyssey' continues and takes the listener to a far deeper altitude. Different layers of melodies overlap each other on the surface above like waves in a stormy sea, while the bass-drum punches mercilessly from the endless depths below. The simplistic percussion leaves room for the several rhythms of each tonal element to form a rousing narrative on its own.
As 2024 enters its final moments of a long Berlin winter we want to welcome the first bursts of early sunshine on a high note. Our guest for this February is an old friend of the house by the name of 'Tantum'. The german producer left several everlasting stains on our label and we are more than proud to welcome him home again. 'Left Behind' is a masterclass teaching the whole spectrum of progressive playfulness. Carefully selected elements shift between foreground and background, leaving enough room for every actor to shine on the center stage. Unobstrusive melodies slide through the curtains of sartorially placed percussions, creating a new story in every playthrough. The persecutor titled 'Geschwindigkeitslauf' digs deeper into the realm of minimalistic clubbiness. An all purpose weapon designed to open, dominate or close a set. Can't go wrong with this USB stick treasure. The incredible elaborate production lets you feel the blinks of the modular system before your closed eyes. 'Retina' is no less detailed than its predecessors but leans a bit more into a tasteful bassy heaviness. Even though 'Tantum' uses a quadrillion different tonal elements, the track never feels overloaded, each element is carefully and intentionally placed at its perfect sweet spot.
A harsh kick drum slices its stompy way through the snowy dust which covers the Radikon headquarter in early winter Berlin. Ukrainian polytalent 'Arude' counteracts any form of upcoming Christmas romanticism with a his upcoming dance floor magnet titled 'Nocturne'. The namegiver is a celebration of the strobe lit habitats of all technoid counterpolulation. Drums and bass perform a stoic dance maneuver on the down- and offbeats, topped with a seasoning of sawtoothy melodies. A small break offers a pause for breathing halfway through, just before another rush of bass breaks loose. 'Your Move' starts off on a playful rhythmic fairground with a not particularly subtle invitation to give it all on the floor. The simple off bass doesn't move a millimeter from the root note, leaving plenty of room for all other elements to shine: Glidy arpeggios, wide intense pads, FX'ed voices. All in all 'Arude' creates a nostalgic longing for the maximal house movement of the late 2000s.
